VETERGESIC Vetergesic contains Buprenorphine which should not be used pre-operatively in cases of Caesarean section, due to the risk of respiratory depression in the offspring periparturiently, and should only be used post-operatively with care. One of our viewers has recently become aware that two very experienced vets were unaware of the dangers, and also knows of a bitch who lost her whole litter within minutes of being born. The vet in question was so distraught and riddled with guilt, that she has given up small animal practice. More information here (pdf document)
