Influence of Anaesthesia on Canine Hip Dysplasia ScoreHip dysplasia (HD) scores, based on the five grades, as defined by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale, were compared between anaesthetized (group 1, n = 3839) and non-sedated non-anaesthetized dogs (group 2, n = 1517). Each dog was radiographed in the standard ventro-dorsal hip joint extended position. Each radiograph was evaluated by the same reader blinded regarding the dog's status of anaesthesia. Results showed that there was a significant difference in hip dysplasia prevalence between group 1 (22%) compared with group 2 (9%) (P < 0.005). This difference was the result of a lower rate of hip-joint laxity assessment and the measurement of Norberg-Olsson angle <105 degrees in group 2 compared with group 1. The acetabular and femoral morphologies were not significantly different between the groups. The data confirm that the scoring of dogs for HD on standard radiographs with the hip joints extended is influenced by anaesthesia. More articles HERE |

Southern Canine Imaging To anyone who uses Southern Canine Imaging and has done for many years for our dogs hips and elbows, and gain info and observations from Marilyn Baker. ''Some of you will be aware that SCI Ltd had to pause our clinics for hip and elbow X-rays because of issues following the installation of new equipment. We had every intention of restarting. This has very recently coincided with new recommendations from HSE that require the installation of additional warning lights and electronics that would be very expensive.'' Given that Marilyn was considering retiring in the next couple of years anyway, and the building is rented, which could potentially be an issue in terms of building modification, Marilyn has taken the decision that the required alterations are not economically viable and that sadly and unexpectedly, SCI Ltd can no longer offer hip and elbow X-rays as we have been after over 30 years of providing this service to the canine community. |

Kilmarnock 01563 522701 Feedback from a breeder - 'MBM Kilmarnock did a wonderful job with B*****. She bounced back out full of life. We spoke in detail about the anaesthesia and MDR and their protocol for B**** was induce anaesthesia with Propofol and then maintain on Isoflurane,on the basis of her being easy to handle and not needing pre-meds. When I got her dad and mum done elsewhere they were under a heavier sedation and not great for a couple of days. Very sleepy. Her dad also had a dicky tummy.' **Recommended** |
