The protein source can be any meat (example: chicken breast, turkey breast, lean beef) that is low in fat and should be cooked (drain off all fat after the meat has been cooked). The carbohydrate can be pasta, sweet potatoe or white rice. ◦Warm the food slightly in a microwave before serving, as the food will be more aromatic when warm. A canine pancreatitis diet should be rich in carbohydrates, as these have little effect on the gastrointestinal hormones, which trigger the pancreatic enzymes. Rice is highly digestible, rich in carbohydrates and can be fed to the dog in small amounts. Along with rice, you can add low fat cottage cheese or boiled skinless chicken breast. A canine pancreatitis diet may include white meat chicken, lean and low fat minced beef, beef heart, beef kidney, egg whites, non fat plain yogurt, oatmeal, barley and cottage cheese. Cooked vegetables ie: squash and sweet potatoes can also be fed, as these foods contain low amounts of phosphorus and fat. EPI (Exorcrine Pancreas Insuffiency) Fibre and Fat should be limited in a dog with EPI. If using dry kibble or canned food, look for food made with sweet potato. Lean meat/chicken breast/fish, scrambled eggs, peas, pasta, and sweet potatoes are ideal if making your own food.Boil the meat and ensure the skin is removed from the chicken and the fat is skimmed off the water, use the broth to cook the vegetables. |

Important foods for dogs with cancer are animal protein If your canine cancer patient is eating a dry commercial dog food many canine nutrionists recommend adding more animal protein such as, Canned sardines, Cottage cheese, Eggs, Beef and Chicken. The first rule for feeding a dog with Cancer is stay away from grains. Fish oil is a good source of cancer fighting Omega 3, 6 and 9. These fatty acids are well studied to help shrink tumors, lower inflammation and provide a host of other health benefits. When fighting cancer, it is recommended your dog has 1000mg of quality fish oil daily for every 20 pounds of dog. Some people like to use flax seed oil instead of fish oil, as per the Flax seed oil and Cottage cheese diet proposed by Dr. Johanna Budwig, a German biochemist in 1951. Organic flax seed oil and cottage cheese must be eaten together to be effective, since one triggers the properties of the other to be released. If your dog won’t eat it, use fish oil NOTE: Consult your veterinarian to make sure your dog is healthy enough for a high protein, high fat diet (especially for those suffering from pancreas, liver, kidney, or spleen issues). |
