Broadline Parasite Control
The names and packaging of parasite-control products can look similar. However, products with similar branding may contain different active ingredients and may be licensed for different species.
Never assume that a product is suitable for a dog because another product made by the same company, or with a similar name, can be used on dogs.
What is Broadline?
Broadline is a broad-spectrum spot-on parasite treatment for cats. It is intended for cats with, or at risk from, certain mixed infestations involving external and internal parasites.
Broadline contains four active ingredients:
- Fipronil
- (S)-methoprene
- Eprinomectin
- Praziquantel
The combination is designed to treat specified parasites in cats. It has not been licensed as a dog treatment and an applicator intended for a cat must never be applied to a dog.
If Broadline is accidentally applied to a dog
- Prevent the dog from licking the application site.
- Keep the packaging and applicator so the exact product, strength and amount can be identified.
- Contact your veterinary surgeon immediately and explain what has happened.
- Follow the veterinary surgeon's instructions about whether and how to wash the application site.
- Seek urgent treatment if the dog develops drooling, vomiting, weakness, poor coordination, tremors, unusual behaviour or seizures.
Do not apply another parasite treatment and do not give medication or a home remedy unless instructed by a veterinary surgeon.
Using parasite treatments safely
- Read the product name and target species before opening it.
- Check that the product is suitable for the animal's age and weight.
- Use only the stated dose and follow the instructions supplied with the product.
- Store cat and dog treatments separately and in their original packaging.
- Do not divide applicators or combine different treatments without veterinary advice.
- If you have cats and dogs, keep treated animals apart until the application site is dry and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
