Rough Collie Breed Notes

News in from Northumberland & Durham where, following the recent AGM, I can confirm the new secretary to be, is, Claire Reid, wife of Johnny Reid. Her details are: 85 Lily Gardens, Dipton, Stanley, Co Durham. DH9 9BH. Tel: 01207.571972. As yet I do not have an email but she may be found by reference to the KC “Red Book” as she is also secretary to quite a few shows in the area, including Spennymoor & District CS and Durham County CA. Mrs. Anne Hassock (Camanna) now holds the post of President.
A few results in from the Open Shows to record first. Jane Margetts and Monica Wells packed their bags and dogs and set off for East Kent CS where Monica’s new puppy made her debut. She is Amalie Just Annie at Terelimon and took BPIB from Christine Dalby (Axeramoon) then Pastoral Puppy G2 from Gary Gray (Slatehouse). Not to be outdone Jane and her blue, Lynmead Lemonade for Collingvale took BOB and Group 2. Two very happy ladies – well done.
Another happy lady is Stefani Flower who, before the storms set in, went to Swansea & District CC and took BOB and Pastoral G1 with her Serenlas Heaven In Blu, known at home as Eden. She is a blue merle. The judge, for both the breed and the Group was Bath Secretary, Lee Cox.
Midland Collie, under the leadership of Secretary Hannah Walder (Hanvale) is the first breed club championship show of the year and had received an entry of 50 males, 69 bitches and 2 NFC. Held at Coventry, the rings and tables were decorated including the French Flag for the dog judge and it was certainly a day to remember for those residing north of the border as many of the major awards found their way back to Scotland!
During the day, the Club’s Patron, longtime supporter of MCC was presented with a small memento of a day, last year and I am sure this framed phot will sit on the mantelpiece at the Bhyllsacre home of Rene Cozens.
It was an interesting entry that awaited both judges. Mr. Didier Dupont, (Ladybird Field) from France and although he has judged both Roughs and Smooths abroad since 2000, this was his first UK appointment for the breed. A short background, provided by the MCC informed us that Didier acquired his first collie in 1985 but soon to be added to his kennel was Int/UK Ch Johnny Be Good at Brilyn who also held Italian, French and titles from Luxembourg. He had received an entry of 50 males with approx half a dozen missing
After receiving news of an accident on one of the routes to the venue, the Committee sensibly decided to delay judging in both rings by 30 mins, which I know was much appreciated by those who were caught up in the traffic.
For those of us unable to attend, Hannah’s husband, Simon, kept everyone up to date with class results as they happened and at the end of each judging, videos of both challenges, so many people are grateful for this, so a big thank you from us all.
How nice top see a well filled Veteran dog class, and taking top honours was Cas Waterhouse and her sable, Lynmead Love In My Soul, who will be celebrating his 11th birthday later this year. Sired by Ch Amalie Deep In My Soul out of Danfrebek Truly Golden at Lynmead and he headed the class of 5
The next few classes were won by “raiders from Scotland”, or dogs bred /owned in Scotland – namely: Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell, Roughrigg Rolling Stone, Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man, Oakland Blue Style du Clos de Sea-Wind and Kourika Knock On Wood.
Other winners included Marina McLaughlin’s Moondance de Cabrenysset for Brihow (imp Fra) who was shown by Margaret in the challenge; No More Heroes du Clos de Sea-Wind JW for Rob & Margaret Shipp, Tiganlea Tone Down for John & Caroline Tipper and finally another from Scotland, Sea-Dreamer’s One and Only (Imp Nld) owned by Karen Johnston but handled by Terry McGowan.
Now to the big award, and feeling a little more settled, following their blow-out and tyre shred on their way to the show, Morag & Jim McCarte where blown away again when their Junior Boy, Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man was awarded the CC. Sired by Lynmack Walk Over You at Roughrigg ex Beldones Fun n Games at Roughrigg, he was born 26th January last year.
Michelle McCann, another Scottish raider took the RDCC with her blue merle, Oakland’s Blue Style de Clos De Sea-Wind at Zolkhan (Imp Fra). He won Special Yearling and is sired by Hot Chocolate du Clos de Sea-Wind out of I Have a Blue Dream du Clos de Sea-Wind, bred by Giles Mervant he will celebrate his 2nd birthday on 23rd of this month.
Best Puppy Dog was the tricolour, Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell, bred in Scotland by Margo/Gary/Louise Walker. He is sired by John’s Ch Jugband Blues du Clos De Sea-Wind via Aaronwell (Imp Fr) out of the import Nelinka de Remember our Love for Starlenga (Imp Fra). In fact, congratulations to all at Starlenga as 4 from this litter either won their class or where placed.
Judging bitches was none other than Doreen Clark (Lynway), one of our more well known and respected judges. Her last appointment for the breed was at Crufts in 2017 where she judged dogs.
Compared to the males, Veteran bitch had only the one entry in Collingvale Crème Caramel, born December 2011, she is sired by Ch Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle JW out of Ch Collingvale Crème Brulee, and she won this class and  BVB.
The Scottish theme continued in bitches, with another Starlenga taking 2nd in MP to Anne Hollywood and her latest baby, Amalie Loves To Sizzle. A sable, born in June last year sired by Ch Amalie Lynmead Live In Lover out of Black’nSassy with Amalie. Maiden bitch saw yet another Starlenga taking the class, this time John Congdon’s Starlenga All My Love to Aaronwell, litter sister to all the others.
Robin Blaikie continued the “raid” with his Kourika Kover Girl winning Graduate and Michelle Mitchell, travelling companion to Michelle McCann, annexed PG with her Scottlyme Qkissagram for Avonfair, born in Belgium, bred by Dora Richter. Sired by Camaro Rock n Roll Junior Ch out of Ch Scottlyme Magical Kiss and she was born March 2017.
Other winners included Val Brown and her tri, Mertrisa Cool Love who won Junior. Sired by Ch Jopium Cool Dude for Mertrisa out of Riverside Song Tropical Love with Mertrisa;  John Congdon won ML with his blue, Lolita Lempicka du Clos De Sea-Wind; Rob Shipp took Limit with Gillyflower Della Bucca delle Fate from Italy. Winning Open was Rev Vikki Burrows and Ch Tiganlea Tinkerbell at Revdvicki, handled by co-breeder John Tipper.
Doreen deliberated over her line up and awarded the CC to an astonished Val Brown and her tricolour Mertrisa Cool Love and the day ended on a high with Michelle Mitchell taking back to Scotland the RBCC with Scottlyme Qkissagram for Avonfair.
Now to the final awards, Jim McCarte and Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man was BIS, RBIS and BOSIS to Val Brown. BPIS to Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell with Anne Hollywood taking RBPIS and Jane Margetts took BVIS
