Breed Notes

As we are aware, apart from the numerous, hopefully fund raising, virtual dog shows, not a lot is happening on our current show scene at present.

So, having found a link to the Royal Melbourne All Breeds Championship Dog  Show in Australia, which gives all the show results, including the famous dog show, I thought I would mention the last show held in September 2019. Here is the link to the show……https://www.rasv.com.au/dogs/

Many thanks for filling in the gaps go to Gael Wilcock (Brentland). Many of you will know Gael, who is an Int Ch Show and has judged in the UK, her last appointment being at Darlington in 2018.. At home in Australia, she is a member of the show organising committee and as such she is not allowed to enter or handle but does enjoy being able to watch judging!

Melbourne Royal is not a show for which one has to qualify there were some 4000 dogs attending in 2019 and this also covers Action Dogs (Obedience and Agility Games) but one difference is the colour of the prize cards. Blue is first, red second, yellow third and 4th and 5th places are only issued where more than 10 compete The show runs over 8 days, breed conformation judging over the first 7 days and some breed clubs combine and hold shows with the Royal. All Group and “In Show” judging takes place on Day 8.

There were just 4 International judges, each judging every day with a maximum of 200 dogs each day. The breed judge for the 2019 show was Michael Forte, a well known International Judge from Ireland.  Numerically our breed has fallen from the normal of 200+ in the 1960’s to a much lower level, (similar to the UK entries) The classes, comprised of Baby Puppy Dog (1); Minor Puppy Dog (1); Puppy Dog (1); Junior Dog (1); Intermediate Dog (4 with 2 absent); Australian Bred Dog (3) and Open Dog (1).
The Dog Challenge went to the winner of Aust Bred Dog, who was Grand Ch Robgai Bad Bad  Leroy Brown. Born in Nov 2013 and sired by Sup Ch Milas Bosa Nova (Imp USA) out of Ch Robgai Sweet Nothings. Owned by Mr R andMrs G Doe. His winnings also included the RASV Rosette and a Cooler Bag supported by Apiam.

Reserve Challenge Dog was the winner of Open Dog,  Ch Coltie Regal Sensation. Owned and bred by Mr/Mrs & Miss C Wallace, he was born Oct 2012 and sired by Ch Brentland Black Watch out of Ch Coltie Stop’n’Stare

Bitches had the same classification but with slightly more in the classes, Baby (2); MP (2); Puppy (2); Junior (2); Intermediate (4, 1 absent); Aust Bred (5) and Open, 3 with 1 absentee.

Taking the Bitch Challenge was Ch Robgai Ticks All The Boxes, a full sister to the dog winner. Reserve Challenge went to Mrs C & Miss Kate Baker, with Ch Carluke Diamentes at Dusk. Born May 2018 who won Junior Bitch. Sired by Ch Carluke Song Sung Blue out of Carluke Myhart Willgo On.

Best of Breed, winning Dog food, and a Gazebo Mat, supported by Black Hawk Premium Pet Care Pty Ltd. the RASV Rosette, Sash in Memory of Victor Gresham, donated by the Collie Club of Victoria Inc. Prize Pack donated by Dog News Australia and a commemorative Mug donated by Janice Cook went to the Bitch, Ch Robgai Ticks All The Boxes, with her brother taking Runner Up Best of Breed.

Best Baby Puppy In Breed was Kirrieloch Keep Dancing, owned and bred by Ms S J Buckley and sired by Carluke Love Struck (AI) out of Ch Jencol Danzliknooneswatchin and she was born June 2019 and BPIB went to the Puppy dog, another Robgai Lord of The Dance, sired by Ch Strathaven Lord and Master out of Ch Robgai Kissme Onth Dance Flr owned and bred by Mr & Mrs Doe making the show a clean sweep of the major awards.
