Breed Notes

I will start with the usual Happy New Year wishes and just hope we will all be able to meet up again some time, have continued good health  and maybe actually attend a proper dog show!

So I shall continue to look back at previous years, in fact just 20 years ago to 2001. You may wonder why I chose this year. This too was not a great year for many as we lost amongst many others, Jasmine Round (Jasand) and Geoff Mildon (Geoffdon)
We suffered from show cancellations due to Foot and Mouth and saw the utter destruction of the twin towers in the USA! So really 2020, although we were, and still are confined to homes and without dog shows, perhaps we should recall other years

On the show scene, due to the Foot & Mouth outbreak, WELKS (when we did have CC’s) was cancelled along with Border Union, Northumberland & Durham, British Collie, Scottish Collie, Collie Club of Wales, also re-scheduled their shows.
Other General Ch Shows to move dates were Working & Pastoral of Wales, Scottish Breeds, Bath, Belfast and finally Crufts!

The winners at Crufts were Ch Phreelancer Phrosty Moon Over Corydon where he won his 22nd CC from Hazel Hunt. Rainier Vuorinen judged bitches and gave the CC to Peptide Lollipop, her 2nd.

There were 19 new champions for the year, with two bitches taking 4 CC’s each, namely Ch Samhaven Forgotten Charm for Alison Grainger and Ch Amalie Sweet Surprise for Anne Hollywood who really hit the headlines when taking the CC/BOB and group and finally BEST IN SHOW at Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland. The breed was judged by the late Terry Thorn and BIS by the late Jo Kirk (Cregagh)

In dogs, both Ch Brooklynson Headliner for Steve & Alison Barrett and Ch/Int Ch Johnny Be Good at Brilyn won 3 CC’s each with Jonny Be Good taking home the BIS trophy at the British.
Other new champion males included, Aintshe Barney Rubble by Ileyda (Tri); Emryks Oh Boy (S?W); Linamac Dodgy Diamond at Damos (B/M); Rixown Damascus (S/W); and Trenley Technicality (S/W)

In bitches we had new Champions in Bhyllsacre Golden Gem (S/W); Elegance in Bloo at Delamere (B/M); Gerian Sunkissed (S/W) and Gerian Sunshine (S/W); Jefsfire So Charming to Brooklynson (S/W); Rixown Arabella (S/W); Sachenda Strawbree Wine (S/W); Samhaven Summer Dreams (S/W) and finally Ch Wicani Darling Buds of May, a Blue Merle
At the last club Ch show for 2001, Derek Smith awarded the first of 23 CC’s to Ingledene Late Nite Love
