Breed Notes At last we seem to be possibly on the road to recovery with more shows being held and more news for you all Sadly, I must report of the death, on Tuesday of Jean Morgan (Tafton) after a very long battle with Cancer. She died peacefully at home with the family around her. In dogs, she had a small kennel, with quite few winners gaining their KCSB numbers. Many of her bitches were descended from stock bred by Noel & Christine Collins, Triburle. Her Ch male was a sable, Ch Tafton Timelord, sired by Int Ch Johnnybegood at Brilyn out of her own home bred Tafton Ruby Tuesday. His first CC came from John Congdon (Aaronwell) at London Collie in 2004, followed by a second at Bournemouth the same year from Eleanor Kitchen (Seriema) and his crown at Ayrshire from the late Rob McDowell (Birkmyre) As a KC approved judge, Jean’s last appointment was at CA in2018 and her next would have been at Crufts this year, but it was not to be. To Alan and family, we extend our sympathies.
Now to Rough Collie Breed Council news, after 25 years of dedicated work, Secretary Duna Jones has stepped down along with Chairman Dave Crapper and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all concerned for their work on the RCBC during some interesting times. The new Secretary is Miranda Blake, with Chairman, myself, Carole Smedley. It will not be an easy time, for not only the RCBC, but for all Clubs and exhibitors too, as only time will tell how many will return to the sport in the future. One item, however, which will no doubt cause mutterings and discussion, is the proposed amalgamation of our Breed Clubs as requested by the Kennel Club. I look forward to keeping you all up to date on the progress of this. So may I take this opportunity to ask you all, regardless of the Club you belong/pay membership to, please take a moment and have a think about how you feel about the future and send your comments to your Clubs so that the RCBC can get a “Grass Roots” feeling for this move. The Kennel Club is still working, partially, and although many of us, including me, still have outstanding issues concerning My KC and other matters, I am pleased to report that although it has taken nearly 18 months, Sheila Telford, Secretary to the CA can now confirm that the Dunsinane affix, belonging to the late Audrey Chatfield is now officially held by the CA under the Historically significant names which means that it cannot be used in the future. Finally, a sincere apology to John Congdon, or rather to Multi-Titled Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Sea-Wind via Aaronwell, Jive to his friends as I incorrectly made him a Veteran in my last show report. He was born 27th August 2014 and will not be a Veteran until next month! Also, John has yet to locate the special extending gazebo poles lost at the recent London Collie shows, could you all please re-check and see if you have them. Carole Smedley |
