Some really sad news from Barrie Skyrme, son of the late Pauline Skyrme, who along with her late husband Brian, lost her long long struggle against the dreaded C today (Friday) at the early age of just 74. The funeral will take place at All Saints Church, Brockhampton at 11:00 on Thursday 22nd December followed by the wake at Brockhampton Village Hall.

Many will have never met either Brian or Pauline who had the very well known Emryks Collies but take a look at the pedigree of your collie and you may well find an “Emryks” in the background! Producing numerous winners, including Champions: Boyzone, Cara, Clare Dawn, Love In Motion, Master Thomas, Oh Boy, Owd Peculiar, Runnaway, Running Bear at Brilyn, Sheer Bliss, Sheer Elegance at Wassail, Two Steps To Heaven at Newloc and April Affair at Lynway. Perhaps one of the most prestigious wins for this small but so influential kennel was the winning of the CC and BOB at
Crufts, with Ch Emryks Runnaway in 1991, when the original entry of 488 was deemed too many for the single appointed Judge, Aileen Speding and a second Judge of Vera Hickson was appointed. My mother, Aileen, opted to judge the males and awarded him the CC. Sired by Ch E Owd Peculiar, a son of Ch Lynway Sandknocker out of Emryks Desdemona. He produced a few Champions in Ch Brilyn Satin Symphony (herself dam of Ch Brilyn Satin n Silk at Carostar and Brilyn Satin Smile on Aaronwell), Ch Hillandale Miss Elation at Peptide and many other winners for other kennels including Cassaby, Chrisarion, Delmbush and Sprucewood. Another Crufts CC winner was Ch Emryks Oh Boy (Matai Paper Boy at Playwell out of Ch Emryks Sheer Bliss who won from Shirley Tootlhill in 1997 Pauline herself had the honour judging Crufts in 2012 where she officiated over the ladies, along with many other prestigious appointments at home and abroad and was very popular with exhibitors in Ireland where she judged in 2005 in Dublin at the AICSS show and again, according to
Maureen & Dermot Timmins in 1991 and special friendships were made with many of the Irish exhibitors including Paul Battigan (Roclynn) and Grenville Francis (Peblu).

Other prolific collies from Emryks, who left the home kennel, also included E. Liberty Lace at Geosan, dam of Ch Geosan Chocolate Box for the late Isobel Douglas, and Geosan Matchmaker at Kourika for Robin Blaikie and can be found in some of Robin’s current show stock along with E. Tri to Resist at Kourika. E. Ellie at Lingwell, who won very well for Brenda Cooney. Emryks Lots of Love to Aaronwell who produced Ch Trenley Technicality and other winners when based at Aaronwell. E Love and Devotion and E Angel of Love left for a home in Scotland and produced winners for the Walker
family. Another who moved fairly locally was E. Lucy Locket at Triburle who is behind a few good winners for Noel and Christine Collins. Another lady to influence a kennel was E. Sent with Love to Jopium, dam of Ch Jopium Heart and Soul JW ShCm for Jo Hodges.

To her remaining family and close friends, we offer our sympathy and grateful thanks for the contribution that both Pauline and Brian made with their Emryks collies.

I have more sad news to report on concerning a rather special Blue Merle lady, Ch Brilyn Platinum Lustre, (Lola) owned and bred by Sue Hawkins, who has left some great memories for many. She lived her final years as a rather special lady with Sue’s son, Richard and Michelle and will obviously leave them with some wonderful recollections. Born in August 2008, she was sired by Ch Chelborn Kiss n Tell out of Brilyn Silver Symphony (a daughter of Ch Karava Kempez and a grand-daughter of Ch Brilyn Rum n Black) and a full sister to Ch Brilyn Kiss at Midnight to Jamesfair. I think she only had one litter, to Danfrebek Truly Magical.

In all, Lola gained 9 CC’s. Her first being awarded at Leeds in 2011 from the late Joan House, with a long break from the ring, it was not until 2016 her 2 nd ticket came from Gwen Beadon at Collie Clubof Wales. Her crown followed at Birmingham National from Penny Sewell in the same year and her 4 th was also acquired at SKC. From then onwards she dominated many a Veteran Class often coming home with the CC, her other CC’s were awarded from: Stuart Mallard, Vanessa Cronk, Lene Newman, Jane Lilley and her last from Albert Wight in 2018 and made an appearance at Crufts in
2019 where I had the pleasure of awarding her 3 rd in an exceptionally strong Veteran class. Often she was also declared Best Veteran in Breed and was frequently well placed in the Veteran Groups.

More news from abroad, this time a winner at the recent Helsinki Winners Show where a collie won not only BOB from Linda Jurgens but then went on to take Best In Group from the very well known and experienced judge Elina Haapaniemi. This was Black Elles Non Stop Drifting; know n at home as Ruu, owned by Eeva ja Marko Ponni and Elija Alvasto. She is sired by Ch Corydon Catch Me Driftin (Ch Demelewis Dark Moon Driftin Over Corydon ex Corydon Fancy Me JW) out of Ch Merry Moonrays Mona Lisa (Merry Moonrays Masterpiece out of a daughter of Ingledene Powerplay).

Lovely news concerning Cambrogan Blowin’ A Hoolie, or as we know her as Brooke or Brookie Zoom Zoom! As reported recently she features in the RSCTA Versatility awards and recently acquired Gold. Here is a list of all her wins with grateful thanks, for this, from her owner Stacy Steven. Brooke acquired her Gold by gaining points in 4 separate areas. Breed Classes, (where she has gained her KCSB); Agility having reached Grade 2, KC Good Citizen Gold Award for Obedience and finally both Novice and Intermediate awards in the Tricks department. This just goes to show how versatile a Rough can be, I know she is not alone in achieving these awards and if you let me know, I will gladly
include for you.

Now to the last Ch Show for 2022, LKA, with Sheila Telford (Glenbowdene) judging a lovely entry of 100 from 85 dogs. Sheila last judged back in 2019 but there were probably a few more absent than normal due to the extreme weather conditions.

I understand the halls were warm and welcoming. The Dog CC, his 10 th went to Ch Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo and Alison Grainger, whose details were published last week. Taking the RDCC from the same Open Class was Ch Gataj Struck by Lightning owned by Melissa Lockyear. Just incase you have forgotten his details; he is sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Gataj Girl’s Best Friend. Melissa also won MPD and BPD with Gataj Turn Back Time and as a single entrant in Puppy with Very Special Angel Silvestre at Gataj (Imp Bel). Veteran Dog went to Stacy Steven with Cariadhaf Crazy Dream and Lynda Boyle won GCD with Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW.

Now to the ladies, winning her 5 th CC was Ch Kourika Kover Girl, a sable who has won all her CC’s during 2022. She is sired by Ch Willowdene Double Or Quits at Wassail out of Geosamka Simply Has To Be for Kourika and she is owned and bred by Robin Blaikie and won Open. Gataj Good Time Girl was in Yearling owned by Melissa and she took home the RBCC. Sired by Perfect Timing du Clos De Sea-Wind for Gataj out of Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind for Gataj. MPB went to another bred by Gataj, but this time in the ownership of John & Caroline Tipper and their Blue Merle, Gataj Isla Blue at Tiganlea, whilst Puppy Bitch went to Gee McEntee with Lynway Sun Blossom through Gerian. Veteran was won by Monsolana Madam Blues Over Barrenclough Sh Cm and Uffspring Ultravox for Coloratura won GCB. BOB went to Alison and her sable boy, Best Puppy to Lynway Sun Blossom through Gerian and a lovely finish to a good 2022 went to Stacy Steven and Brodie who won BVIB.
