Breed Notes

It has been a busy week for many, with 2 shows on one day for British Collie and Crufts, by now, you will all know the main results but for others, here goes!
BCC held not only their 2021 re-scheduled Ch show but also a 2nd show at the same venue and with BCC being on rotation for Rough CC’s the second show was, in fact an Open show but with CC’s for Smooth Collies.
New Secretary, Margaret Shipp was to be in charge but, sadly, due to a trapped sciatic nerve, she was unable to walk and therefore could not attend.  This must have been a great disappointment for her but.............having recently just given up the leadership of the BCC; it fell to ex Secretary, with the approval of Rob Shipp, Chairman, Duna Jones to take over on the day.
Helped by grandson Josh, Jo Hodges, Jill Oliver and other extremely hard working committee members, the show commenced but during the day, Derek Allsopp, who had been stewarding had to leave as his wife, Hazel became unwell and had to go home. As Joanna Lake had brought Pat Wilkinson to the show for a day out (which I understand she really enjoyed) she stepped in to take over from Derek. A nice touch that the rosettes for the annual Ladypark Trophy were presented by Pat.
The results for the Ladypark Trophy were as follows: Overall winner, Melissa Lockyear with Gataj Good Time Girl, with joint runners up, Gataj Out of The Woods and Erjon Ebony Jewels. Tiganlea Twist and Turn was 3rd, Alfsden He Lives In You 4th; Triburle Chance of Passion 5th, Ingledene Sno Angel 6th, Tiganlea True Hearts Desire 7th, Revdvicki Tahitian Pearl 8th, Jards Ring Presence in 9th with Fridens Be My Lucky at Aaronwell in 10th. I think, if memory serves me well, the points are calculated from wins in both puppy classes and with additional points for CC/RCC or Group wins. According to the list the points go from 25 to a winning 105.To all who competed, well done and to those who record and calculate the points, a big thank you from all concerned.
Judges for the 1st show were: Grenville Francis (Peblu) for dogs, and a first appointment for Tracy Jackson (Sassari) for bitches, Sandra Wigglesworth (Sandiacre) officiated for the Smooths and BIS (at both shows) was Anne Hollywood, who was also BIS judge at the recent CA Ch show in November!
The entry for this, according to the catalogue was 126 and 4 NFC, comprising of 51 dogs and 75 bitches. Grenville, who last judged at Crufts (bitches) in 2016 awarded the Dog CC, his first was Melissa Lockyer and her homebred, Gataj Struck By Lightning who won from Limit.
Storm, as he is known at home is sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of her own Gataj Girl’s Best Friend and was born in March 2019.
Winning Open and the Reserve CC was Ollie, Ch Oakland’s Blue Style du Clos de Sea-Wind at Zolkhan (Imp Fra) owned by Michelle McCann and bred, in France by Mr & Mrs Mervant. He is sired by Hot Chocolate du Clos De Sea-Wind out of I Have A blue Dream du Clos de Sea-Wind and adds this to his collection
BPD went to Morag & Jim McCarte, who kindly let me know that Roughrigg Red All Over who won puppy, is sired by Culbrae Red Again out of Roughrigg Golden Rhapsody.
Fellow Scot, Robin Blaikie won MP with his Kourika You’ll Do For Me and John Congdon brought his blue, Ch & Fr Ch Jugband Blues du Clos de Seawind via Aaronwell (Imp Fra) to win Veteran and other class winners included: Beldones Rocket Man (Junior); Alfsden Endless Night (Novice); Chelborn That’ll Do won Graduate; PG went to Starlenga Harry Potter with Elshajo and Tiganlea Task Master at Trenic taking Mid Limit.
Tracey had the pleasure of awarding a first CC, on her first appointment to Beldones Looks Like Fun. A sable, homebred by Brian and Odile. Thanks to both Brian and Odile for letting me know. She is sired by Ch Beldones Black Illusion and her mother, Ch Beldones Fit For Fun, also won the BCC and BOB back in 2017, so daughter following in the paws of mother, Beth as she is known at home was born in July 2017 and this is her first major award and she won from Open.
Standing 2nd to Beth, was another top winner, Ch / Hung Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time, owned by Monika Bardos and handled by her co breeder, John Tipper. She took the RBCC and added this to her collection which will be going back home with her shortly.
Best Puppy Bitch went to another raider from Scotland, the Walker/Ritchie family with their Starlenga Nina Simone and BVB went to Sophie Wray Ramsden with the ever young, Beldones Duchess of Dreams. Other class winners were: Riverside Song Narayana at Uffspring (Puppy); Beldones Just For Fun at Starlenga (Junior); Maiden went to Tudorlyn Alice In Wonderland; Arklethill Delilah at Ileyda won Graduate; Post Grad went to Chantique Déjà Vu with Ladnar Inkspot winning Mid Limit and finally Phreelancer Faith Hill won Limit.
BOB went to Brian & Odile with Beth, Reserve BOB to John, handling for Monika, BPIB to Starlenga Nina Simone and BVIB to Sophie and Duchess
BIS was awarded to Brian and Odile, but, although they won the most prestigious BIS Trophy, (the second time for Brian, as he won it in 2001 with ch/Int Ch Johnny BeGood at Brilyn) were unable to take it back home, as not only did they have to leave early, it was also required for the 2nd show.
Now to the second show, there were no CC’s on offer here for Roughs, so being on rotation, it was, in fact an Open Show. Being held alongside the main Ch show, there was a good entry (with the usual absentees) for Carron Jenkins from Scotland, who, along with partner Jeremy Barron hold the Rannaleroch affix. Carron had 34 males and 48 bitches.
Her best dog was Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell, owned by John Congdon but bred by the Walker/Ritchie family in Scotland and he is a son of John’s Veteran winning, Ch/Fr Ch Jugband Blue du Clos De Sea-Wind via Aaronwell.
RBD was Tiganlea Task Master at Trenic, owned by Jean Singh and handled by John Tipper. BPD, repeating his success at the Ch show was Roughrigg Red All Over with Takhisis Lysander for Mrs Chaplin taking Reserve BPD.
Best Bitch went to Monika Bardos and Ch/Hun Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time, handled by co breeder John with Millubie Rewind (Imp Serbia) winning for Debbie Finney from Selkirk. BPB was Paulara Keep The Faith, who won, as a puppy from Junior, beating the other puppy girls of Takhisis Midsummer Dawn and Corisian French Flirt who went RBPB.  Best Veteran was another nice win for Sophie and Beldones Duchess of Dreams.
BOB fell to the sable bitch, Reserve BOB to the dog, BPIB to the Junior Bitch and repeating her win at the Ch show, Sophie took BVIB with her sable lady.
Best In Show and taking home the trophy was Ch/Int Ch/Hun Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time for Monika Bardos. RBIS went to the Smooth, judged by Trevor Hayward and also BPIS went to the Smooth with the Rough going RBPIS and Sophie again went Best Veteran in Show.
Interesting to note, as I compiled these notes, not only did the Beldones kennel of Brian and Odile have a good day, winning BIS ands the BCC, stock bred by them also achieved BVIS over 2 show along with a few class wins as well.
Not to be outdone, John & Caroline Tipper, who now hold the BIS trophy, last won it in 2018 with Ch Tiganlea Tinkerbelle at Revdvicki, both of whom are out of Hazelnut des Vergers de Iacchos but with different sires – surely another item for the history of this wonderful Challenge Trophy.
