Breed Notes

Lots of varied news for you all this week but firstly I have to start off with some sad news concerning a well known collie person from the “West Country”.  Christine Poyser who had the small Rubrue kennel died on 30th April. Her funeral will be held at Weston-Super-Mare Crematorium on Thursday 26th May at 1.30. This news was sadly passed on from Phil Amos, Chairman at West of England Collie Society where many years back she was an avid supporter. To her family and friends we express our condolences.

Now, more congratulations are in order for our Scottish Agility Star, none other than Cambrogan Blowin A Hoolie, or as we know her, Brooke, along with owner breeder Stacy Steven. Along with her show career, in her spare time, Brooke and Stacy have been competing in Agility and last week, at only her 3rd Agility competition, she won her way out of Grade 1.  There have been some issues in her competitions as, like many roughs, Brooke decided she did not like certain obstacles on the course, including the dog walk and also being too exuberant when approaching the weave poles but with perseverance, Stacy persuaded her it was fun!  Brook had gained her 1st place in the jumping course prior to this and now goes forward to the next grade. All this is done between attending shows and like her companion, Brodie, gathering numbers by walking the Munroe’s and exploring many of the smaller islands. Well done all
Now to Smooth Collie Club of GB who scheduled Rough classes at their joint Open shows held at Bearley Village Hall, Snitterfield near Warwick. Secretary Marianne Benton had organised not only good weather but some interesting judges at both events and listed as Show Secretary was Miss A Richardson for both events.

Show 1, had Di Collino (Imaginist) for the Roughs and Brian Hull (Lizmark) for Smooths with a BIS judge of Fran Kaye (Danfrebek) SAC classes were scheduled (Smooth Collie Only) for Kirsty Russell (Koczkodan) with judging of Roughs not before 12 noon
Show 2 had Stefani Flower (Serenlas) for Roughs, Abby Lusty for Smooths and BIS Hannah Walder (Hanvale) for BIS. Again, confined to Smooths the SAC classes were judged by Ms Deb Bell.

Starting at 9.30 were the Roughs at Show 2. From her entry Stefani Flower, awarded BD to   Afterglow Incantation, owned by Keith and Angela Harvey. Sired by Wicani Invoking Spirit out of Wicani Hot Property of Afterglow and bred by Mike Gadsby and Jason Lynn. He was born July 2020 and won from Post Grad. Reserve Best Dog was Corydon The Ringmaster (Ch Corydon The Ringleader ex Corydon Grandeflora) owned and bred by Miranda Blake, born 2016 he won Open Dog.

Best Puppy Dog went to Wicani Obsidian Dagger at Rossavon, bred by Keith and Angela but owned by Ros Macdonald and he was born last June, sired by Wicani Cloak and Dagger out of Wicani My Blue Veined Child. Best Veteran and Best Vintage Veteran was Shelly Skinner and her tricolour, Nikal It’s Gud to Be Black VW. Now 11 years young, approaching 12, he is by Jambarlas Sent With Love to Myriehewe (Imp Aus) out of Amalie She’s No Angel at Nikal.

Best Bitch went to Demelewis Double Dare, who won Open for Maxine Mellish.  By Demelewis Catchmydrift out of Demelewis Dare To Tell and she was born in January 2018. RBB went to Marion Radford-House with Ingledene Midnite Skye with Fivejays who won PG. Bred by John & Val Geddes; she is sired by Ingledene Well Sooted out of Ingledene Sno Wanda and was born September 2020
BPB was Ladnar Izadorable for Dave & Sue Randall. Sired by Ch Ladnar Mustriharder out of Fata Turchina Ladnar de Cambiano and she celebrates her birthday at the end of this month. Best Veteran, which is hard to believe, was  Izadorable’s  grandmother, Ladnar Inkheart JW, now just into Veteran having been born April 2015, she is sired by Ladnar Harvey Moon out of Ladnar Full Circle.
BOB went to Angela and Invocation, RBOB to Marion and Midnite Sky, BPIB and BVIB to Dave & Sue, with Ladnar Izadorable and Ladnar Inkheart JW respectively with RPBIB to Mejola Main Event and Jo White, who again, sent over as many results as possible, for which we are all grateful.

BIS from Hannah Walder was the Smooth, Ch Brackenhaye Shape O’My Heart,  RBIS to another smooth, Manordeifi Rose Blossom with the roughs, Invocation taking BOSIS and Izadorable BPIS and Inkheart BVIS.

Now to Show 1, with the later start. Best Dog was a repeat of Show 1, with Afterglow Invocation winning. Val Geddes won RBD with her Ingledene Fantasy of Blu (Ch One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano ex Ch Ingledene Spirit of Ecstasy and full brother to Freddie (Ch I Mercury Risin’) BPD was Myriehewe London Calling for Gwen Beadon. Sired by Marvalan Spirit of Rock out of Samhaven On The Pull and he was born May 2021 and Veteran was a repeat for Shelley Skinner and Alfie, Nikal It’s Gud to Be Black VW.
In bitches BB and also BVB was Marianne Benton’s Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle. By Brooklynson James Bond out of Brooklynson Joanna, she was born Nov 2014, bred by Steve & Alison Barrett. RBB was Val Geddes with Ingledene Nite N’Chanting who won Limit. Sired by Ch Ingledene Spirit of Legend out of Ingledene Nite Bird.  BPIB was another win for Ladnar Izadorable and Sue & Dave Randall.

BOB was the Veteran lady, RBOB to Invocation, BPIB to Izadorable and RBPIB to London Calling and Gwen. BIS went o Marianne and Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle, RBIS to another Smooth, Ch Winter Is Coming To Tentola, with Izadorable repeating her success  of BPIS, all judged by Fran Kaye.

On a more concerning note, I have heard from Val Tame that Doris McDade is in hospital, hopefully recoving from a nasty fall. She had been intending to meet up with Val, Sue and Ann for lunch and a spot of shopping. Despite numerous phone calls, the girls were quite concerned that Doris did not show, and later on Sue Howard called in to check all was fine with Doris. Luckily, a neighbour, who just happened to be an off duty Police, noticed and heard the calls to Doris and they managed to get into the house and found Doris at the foot of the stairs.  I am sure this will concern many of you who are alone in a house and a great tip is to ALWAYS carry your mobile phone with you, even in the house. I did hear recently of one person, who was nearly locked in the bathroom as the door lock seized! It can happen to any of us, so please take precautions. All three of the dogs living with Doris are now being cared for by Val Tame, who I am sure will keep us updated as to how Doris recovers.
