Breed Notes
3rd February 2023

Some varied news this week including the sad news of the death of Rene Cozens (Bhyllsacre) to whom a full tribute is available HERE.

Now to a change of date involving a Sub-Group Ch Show and a Club Open show in Scotland planned for 25th – 26th March. Scottish Breeds where Andre Scott (Chantique) is listed for Roughs, have not only changed their venue but are now holding the show over 2 days, with Roughs being judged on Sunday 26th at Lawrie & Symington Agricultural Centre, Lanark ML11 9AX. This was the original date for the Ayrshire Collie Club, and hats off to Secretary, Morag McCarte for organising and confirming the ACC Open Show information which will be held Saturday 25th March at Crawfordjohn Community Hall, ML12 6SR. The judge for this event is Michelle Davis (Rosschell).

Rough Collie of The Year, hosted by British Collie took place at a new venue with Judges: Lene Newman (Phreelancer); Tony Iley (Ileyda) and Sandra Taylor who is the wife of well known Mick Taylor who have the Bruernish kennel and quite a family affair the final results were.

BCC are always very generous to entrants, and although sponsored by Royal Canin, the club also offers Commemorative Rosettes and Diplomas to all entrants, along with Sashes and special rosettes to 4th place for all winners, also those BCC members who made up a New Champion were also celebrated and included, Ch Brooklynson El Dorado Sh C Ex, Ch Kourika Kover Girl, Ch Ladnar Inkheart, Ch Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate, Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning and  his kennel mate Ch Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj.

It is divided into sections with Junior RCOTY, Veteran and Adults, divided by Dogs and Bitches.  With a total of 54 entrants an interesting day for all concerned.

Junior had 12 entrants, although 4 were absent and taking the 2022 title was Mejola Main Event for Jo White, who if you recall won the RBCC at Crufts last year. Sired by Corydon Winning Factor out of Mejola Main Attraction she was born in June 2021. R/Up went to Serenlas Pumpkin Spice for Stefani Flower who won a CC from puppy last year. She is sired by Ingledene Spirit’n’Venture out Serenlas Pagan Moon and was born October 2021. 3rd went to Duna Jones and Josh Blackburn with Erjon Evolving Beauty, by Ch Ingledene Spirit of Legend out of Erjon Evolving Star. In 4th place was Ann French and her tricolour, Breckamore Pitch Dark who has Ingledene Well Sooted and Brilyn Swirls and Curls for her parents. Interesting to see that all these juniors are not only bitches and all are homebred which must bear well for the future.

Now it was the turn of the Veterans, 14 entered with 4 missing and taking the title for 2022, non other than Ch Ladnar Inkheart for Dave & Sue Randall. Just in case you needed a reminder, she took her title (from Veteran) last year and is by Ladnar Harvey Moon JW out of Ladnar Full Circle and was born April 2015. R/Up was Aniesh Forever Blue with Whatacoo and is sired by Jealous Guy of Slatestone at Jopium out of Aniesh Blue Mist and bred by Mrs Jan Scott and born Feb 2014. Adult males were judged first and of the 11 entered, there were 3 missing, one of which was just a complimentary entry. The day just got better for Sue Dave as they annexed Best dog with Ch Ladnar Mustriharder, a tricolour, by Ch/Int Ch Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano out the Veteran Winner, Ch Ladnar Inkheart. Taking R/U was Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning for Melissa (Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Gataj Girls Best Friend) and he has been winning very well through out 2022. Jo White and her blue, Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune ShCex took 3rd. He is by Ch Corydon Once In A Blue Moon out of Corydon Femme Fatale at Mejola and the final place went to Ch Think of Me Prince of Sunlight at Gataj JW. Born May 2017 he is sired by Prince of Sunlight Sweet Smile out of Prince of Sunlight Just For Me and is another owned by Melissa Lockyer.

There were 17 ladies listed, although organiser, Jo Hodges had only added 3 as Complimentary entries and there were a total of 9 missing. Winning Best bitch was Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale, a sable born in January 2018, bred by Brian & Odile and owned by Simon & Hannah Walder who had only just returned from Abu Dhabi. She is sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed out of Heather Locklear du Clos de Sea-Wind. In R/U position was Gataj Good Time Girl, homebred for Melissa Lockyer, she is a sable, by Perfect Timing Du Clos de Sea-Wind out of Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind. In 3rd spot was Ch Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fate owned by Robert & Margaret Shipp, Bred in Italy by Lisa Ricciardi she is sired by Int Ch More and More Della Buca Fate out of Rather Be Della Buca Delle Fate and taking the last place was the recent CC winning Beldones Magical Bliss, Sired by Ch Roughrigg Rag’n’Bone Man out of Beldones Corradina and she was born January 2021 and homebred by husband and wife, Brian and Odile.

With all 4 winners present, the judges deliberated and the final result for RCOTY winner being Ch Ladnar Mustriharder with R/Up Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale JW.

To summarise, Best Junior to Jo White and Mejola Main Event, Best Veteran to Ch Ladnar Inkheart and RCOTY to Ch Ladnar Mustriharder, a son of the Veteran winner.

Well done to all at BCC, Secretary Margaret Shipp, organiser  and Treasurer, Jo Hodges, all Committee members and President Duna Jones – I am sure RCOTY for next year will be equally successful.
