Rough Collies

I had a mixed selection of Rough Collies under me today. Many were excellent representatives of their breed and were rewarded accordingly. However I had some with very untypical, heavy coarse heads that did not even look like collies, as well as a few underweight ones with pin bones that would not have been out of place on an afghan hound. Most of the males still have short tails reaching no where near the hock joint; but the situation is much better in the bitches. Movement generally was not always easy to assess as although the breed had a lovely large ring to move in about a third of it on one side proved a challenge to some of them. Some slipped or slide on it while others took no notice and moved freely whatever surface they were on. 

DOGS

MPD (4,1) 1. Beaden’s Myriehewe London Calling NAF. Two nice babies, just preferred the outline of the winner. Six month old tricolour very immature. Nice head pattern with dark well placed eye, clean muzzle and correct ear placement. Well constructed both fore and aft with good bone. A lovely long tail completing the picture. Rear movement still needs to settle. 2 Fielding’s Lillyway Lemon Crush. Sable youngster not such good shoulder placement as the winner but sound on the move. Level topline with slight rise over the loin. I would have preferred a slightly longer tail.

 

PD (4,1) 1. Lockyer Gataj Out Of The Woods (BPIB). Glamorous golden sable in full coat. Lovely head pattern with correctly carried ears completing the picture. Balanced throughout, correctly put together and demonstrated by easy movement around the ring and when coming and going. 2. Milligan & Marley’s Alfsden He Lives In You. Well broken blue merle of good colour. Nice head pattern. Slightly steep in upper arm but well angulated at the rear with neat feet. Movement uneven which gave the appearance of a slight roll. Would prefer a slightly larger eye. 3. Fielding’s Lillyway Lemon Crush

 

JD (2) 1. Boyle’s Monsolana Aspire to Impress over Barrenclough NAF. Tricolour in good coat and condition. Slightly stronger in back skull with well filled muzzle. Good bone and construction. Level back rising slightly over loin. Free mover with lovely temperament. 2. Milligan & Marley’s Alfsden Endless Night. Another tricolour slightly overawed at being handled as at his first show. Excelled in head with lovely eye. Good body, moved effortlessly around the ring. 

 

YD (4) 1. Boyle’s Monsolana Aspire to Impress over Barrenclough NAF (First in last class). 2. Spendelow’s Uffspring the Understudy. Lovely tricolour masculine in outlook. Beautifully constructed without exaggeration. Good head and ear placement. Unfortunately today would not move out on the floor so costing him a high placing. 3. Garside’s Demelewis Gang Leader. 

 

PGD (11,3) 1. Pullen – Barrenclough Diamond Dawn at Myjacks (RDCC). Sable well put together, sound fore and aft. In good coat and well presented. Excellent on the move. 2. White’s Camanna Chasingclouds over Mejola. Blue merle not quite in coat of winner, but what coat they had was of good colour. Nice head and expression with correct ear carriage. Correct arch of neck. Level back. Good turn of stifle and neat feet. Moved with drive fron the rear. 3. Scott’s Whatacoo The One and Only with Anieshc.

 

LD (4,1) 1. Lockyer’s Gataj Struck by Lighning. Lovely golden sable in full coat and excellent condition. Very well put together. Balanced throughout without exaggeration. Today he wasn’t impressed with the floor so costing him possible top honours. 2. Byrne’s Ingledene Affairs By Nite. Shaded sable unplaced in last class. Nice head and eye placement. Not in full coat and a little narrow throughout. Lacking substance. Moved steadily. 3. Corben & Moore’s Caprioara Prince of Thieves 

 

OD (7,2) ) 1. Grainger Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo (DCC and BOB). Rich sable, masculine in outlook. In full coat, well presented. Nice head pattern and expression. I would have preferred a slightly larger eye but this did not detract from his overall quality. Balanced throughout with neat feet. Good reach of neck, level back with correct slight rise over loin. Moved freely around the ring, and sound coming and going. 2. Cronk Int Ch Skabona the Gambler at Chelborn (Swed Imp). Tricolour, another quality dog. True collie head and expression. In good coat and condition. Balanced throughout and excellent on the move. Just preferred the overall outline of the winner. 3. Scott’s Aniesh Touch of Black. 

 

VD (4,1) 1. Steven’s Cariad Crazy Dream. Sable, enjoying his day out. Nice head which has not coarsened with age. He has retained quality of coat and condition. Moved easily around the ring. A credit to his owner. 2. Scott’s Aniesh Touch of Black. Tricolour third in Limit. Head could be more refined as rather deep in back skull. Well constructed and in good coat. Moved OK. 3. Skinner’s Nikal It’s Gud to be Black VW 

 

BITCHES

MPB (3) 1. Randall Ladnar Isadorable. Three lovely bitches all of excellent quality and promise. The winner certainly lives up to her name. Blue Merle of a lovely clear blue and black markings, set off with a full white collar. Good head and expression with well carried correct ears.Balanced throughout with picture being completed by lovely long tail. Moved well round the ring. 2. Growcott’s Lillyway Lemon Breeze. Another quality puppy. Good head pattern with dark well placed eyes and correct ear placement. Very feminine in outlook. Correct fore and aft. Easy mover. 3. Spendelow’s Riverside song Narayana for Uffspring (Imp Rom NA).

 

 

PB (8,5) 1. Lockyer- Gataj Good Time Girl (BPB). Nice young bitch in good coat and condition. Well presented. Good head pattern with well rounded muzzle and correct filling under the eye. Welll bodied up for age with good bone and neat feet. Good reach of neck well laid into shoulder. Level back. Moved with drive. 2. Perrott Gataj One Moment In Time. Sable, well put together would prefer a slightly more depth of underjaw to complete the picture. Balanced in outline. Moved OK. 3. Troop’s Elshajo Made By Magic 

 

YB (3,1) 1. Lockyer’s Riverside Song Glory of Love for Gataj (Imp Rom) Very feminine tricolour bitch in lovely coat and condition. Nice size for age. Very well put together without exaggeration. Quality head and expression. Good length of tail completing the picture. Moved very well around the ring also positive coming and going. 2. Harrison’s Cambrogan Lady of Loch’aber at Cariadhaf. Sable but did not quite have the lovely head pattern of the winner. Sound and balanced in body. Moved easily around the ring. 

 

PGB (13)(5) 1. Lockyer’s Gataj Honey Bee. Feminine sable bitch in full coat. Balanced in outline, corect fore and aft. Correct head pattern and expression, but ears could be set slightly higher. Good reach of neck. Level back and correct slight rise over loin. Nice length of tail. Moved OK. 2. Cooper’s Lilith Nar Sule of Kelekona. Not as finished as the winner, needs to fill out more as tends to stand rather close in front. Good head and overall construction. Moves very positively at all times. 3. Shipp’s Perfect Decision Du Clos De Sea-Wind (Imp Fra) 

 

LB (7,2 1. Lockyer’s Gataj Girl’s Best Friend (RBCC). Golden sable of full coat and excellent condition. Lovely feminine head with true collie expression. No exaggeration. Moved effortlessly around the ring and when going away or coming towards me. A quality bitch. 2. Whitaker’s Siluto Over The Blue Moon. Blue Merle of not such a clear colour but still a nice bitch and excellent on the move. Well put together with correct front and hind angulation. Good hed pattern but ears could be slightly higher to advantage.

OB (10,7) 1. Hodges – Jopium Love Heart JW ShCM (BCC). Glamorous sable, elegant in outline, a high quality bitch. Balanced throughout without exaggeration. In full coat of excellent presentation. Beautiful head and expression with neat well placed eye and ears. Glided effortlessly around the ring. 2. Watkins & Cook’s Whatacoo Blaze of Glory. Blue Merle not the best of colours but nice to go over and moved very well. Correctly put together with good head pattern and well filled muzzle. 3. Whitaker – Siluto Misterious Girl 

 

VB (4,1) 1. Wray-Ramsden’s Beldones Duchess of Dreams JW (BVIB) Very sound shaded sable. Not coarsened at all with age. Beautifully put together and very positive on the move. 2. Whitaker’s Aniesh Misty Blue Moon of Siluto. Blue Merle showing her age but still very sound and went very well on the move. 3. Skinner’s Samhaven Time is money with Nikal
