Dundee Canine Society
June 2022

It was an honour to be invited to judge at this society, especially after a long hiatus due to covid. It takes a lot to get an open show of this scale up and running and the committee did an excellent job.
I am thankful to the very trusty steward in ring 9 who kept my morning running smoothly. Last but not least I am extremely thankful for the entries I received across my 5 breeds on my debut judging appointment. For everyone who made it on the day thank you for your patience and acceptance of my placing’s. It was a pleasure to go over all your beautiful dogs. I was most pleased to see my BOB Finnish Lapphund, Bearded Collie and Polish Lowland be shortlisted in the huge group and the bearded Collie take group 4!

Rough Collies
Class 295. Rough Collie Puppy  (3 present 1 absent)

1.Welsh’s INGLEDENE SNO DREAM AT THISTLEWING. Super feminine 11 month old blue merle, lovely shape.  Excelled in movement which won her the class, her parallel hocks , super bend of stifle and good drive combined with a good front reach made her covering of the ring look effortless. A more reserved character , she still used her perfectly shaped and placed ears to her advantage. Head properties were good, everything was balanced with nice parallel head planes tapering off to a well blunted muzzle and just enough stop. Fabulous reach of neck into well laid shoulders.  Good length of body with a level top line held on the move. Lovely length of tail and fitted jacket of correct texture,  This young lady should do well as her confidence grows.

2. Brodie’s SHANABURN COUNTRY ROAD. Confident 10 month old sable boy of good size.  What a beautiful nature he has. He is a lovely , masculine puppy dog with a gorgeous expression. You have to handle his head to appreciate it, Although a slightly shorter head type than 1 , underneath the fur his head properties are super, everything is balanced and correct. Good underjaw, fill of muzzle and teeth. His neck is of good length and  strength and his body is good for his stage of development.  Very good bone on this boy and profuse correct coat.  He moved well in side profile. Just needs to strengthen in rear pasterns and thigh now. I wish I could have had 2 first places. On the move he looked a bit weak on his back right hock which was my deciding factor. He has a bright future ahead of him, he has the looks and personality.

3. Taylor’s  THISTLEWING FIRE DANCER AT BRYANY. Lovely young boy who Needs some time for everything to come together.

Class 296. Rough Collie Special yearling (3 present)

1. Welsh’s THISTLEWING SMOKY QUARTS. Upstanding 10 month old sable boy with everything coming together nicely, with time and maturity on his side as he grows up. He has a lovely balanced head with desired stop and kindness to his eye, which is the correct shape. Fabulous ears used non stop. His neck has the most superb arch and length although it also has good strength  and power to it.  Adequate bone with a correct front, good length to body and strength to the top line and a well angulated rear. Good length of tail. He is of good body condition and muscle for his age.

2. Leslie’s KLEOPATRA AT INTERMITTENT LAKE (imp Slovenia). Feminine and pretty 18 month old tri girl, just a little reluctant today to show me her best self. She has a nice eye, slightly finer head but in proportion to her body , she had a lovely well blunted wedge shaped head which was balanced and desired amount of stop. Good mouth, jaw and dentition and lovely strong bone in her legs. She moved with very good front reach and good angulation and a level top line.  I would have loved to see her expression if she was happier with her ears up and happier to show herself off.

3. Taylor’s  ELASHJO AS IF BY MAGIC OF BRYANY.

Class 297. Rough Collie Post graduate (2 present, 3 absent).

1. Welsh’s THISTLEWING SPELL ON YOU.  My Best of  Breed. This 2 year old glamorous sable, although wearing a more fitted coat screams look at me. Her shape commands attention. Everything about this girl is balanced, her eye is a lovely correct almond shape and expression is melting. Her head is the desired well blunted clean wedge shape, with ears bang on top, tipping to the correct proportion and well used. Good strong jaw and dentition is perfect.  Her neck has such a beautiful arch and length and flows nicely into well laid back shoulders.  Excellent length to height ratio , with good heart room underneath her ribs. Moved out well due to her well let down hocks and excellent bend of stifle, in side profile looked excellent and coming towards.

2. Taylor’s  ELASHJO AS IF BY MAGIC OF BRYANY.  This 18 month old sable was not a happy or settled girl today. I could not say much about her movement. I have seen her previously on much better form. Smaller girl all over, feminine with a lovely kind eye. Correct bite and nice shape of head. Correct bone in her straight front legs, and good rear angulation.  She carries a nice long tail and correct coat which was in very good condition.

Class 298. Rough Collie Open (2 present, 4 absent).

1. Proctor’s WILMARANNA OUT OF THE BLUE FOR CATHBRI. 5 and a half year old merle dog he is of good size and shape and in fabulous coat. Head handles well with correct depth and good balance of length and the kindest eye and expression, a real selling point for this boy.  Good strong jaw and correct scissor bite. Well used and correctly sized and placed ears. He has a good amount of neck, correct length to height ratio and good spring to ribs with good bone in his forequarters. I would have liked a longer tail. Moved positively with good front reach and rear drive.

2. Yule’s INGLEDENE NUTE ‘N’ GALE. This 4 year old tri girl is looking fantastic, she is in a wealth of lovely jet black coat. Lovely balanced female with great shape and movement.  Nice head and super well used ears. Kept a good steady top line on the move with very good rear angulation and a good front and shoulder lay, allowing her to reach out well.
