Yorkshire Collie Club Open Show
May 2022

I would like to thank the committee of the Yorkshire Collie Club for inviting me to judge Rough Collies at their May 2022 open show. A big thank you to both my lovely stewards for all their help and also to all the exhibitors for their entries. I found the whole day friendly with a good atmosphere.

Special beginners Dog/Bitch

1st Whitakers Siluto Misterious Girl. 4 year old tri colour bitch who was well balanced. Her head and expression were pleasing but I would have preferred a better ear carriage. She was good for bone and kept her top line well while on the move. She moved freely but sadly was not in the best of coat on this occasion.

2nd Dix’s Barrenclough Diamond Skies. 2 year old Sable male who was in good coat and good for bone. He was deeper in the stop and wider in the skull than I would prefer but he had a kind expression. On the move he did not seem particularly happy on this occasion.

1st Cooney’s Ch Jopium Stole my Heart at Lingwell. 9 year old Sable male who was in good coat. Again, he was much deeper in stop and wider in the skull than I would prefer. I would also have preferred a slightly larger eye. His teeth were good and he was good for bone. He was sound on the move and moved steadily around the ring. BVD

2nd Collino’s Wicani Altitude at Imaginist. 7 year old tri colour male. completely different head type to first and much more to my liking. I found him cleaner in the head.  By this I mean no flare to the cheeks and a much more pleasing stop.  He has a good ear carriage and a lovely dark eyes. He is a good size male and in good coat. Sadly today I just found him a little over weight and not so forward going on the move.

1st Chaplins Takhisis Lysander. 11 month old very attractive Sable male in good coat and well presented. I first saw him in the distance at another recent show and thought how nice he looked. He is a good size youngster with lots of spirit which showed while on the move. He has a very pleasing head with correctly placed eyes. Ears are also well placed and he used them to his advantage. He has a good length of neck and a good top line. He is good for bone and his tail is of the correct length.  Very forward going and happy on the move. I liked him very much. BPD  RBD

1st Boyles Monsolana Aspire To inspire over Barrenclough. (Imp Rus) 19 Month old tri colour male who was shown in good coat. Again his head was not for me and unfortunately I found him a little short in the back. His tail was of good length and he used his ears well. On the move he was fair.

1st Allsopp’s Aqualita It’s a Myrical. 3 year old tri colour male. I really did like this boy and he reminded me of another tri male that I used to see and admire. He was well groomed and his coat shone. He has a very pleasing head and I also noticed his teeth were good. He has a good length of neck and his top line was good. He was well balanced and has a good turn of stifle. Tail was of good length. His movement around the ring was effortless and he seemed to be enjoying his day out. I just wish he had used his ears a bit more.

1st Cooney’s Jopium Danny Boy at Lingwell. 5 year old shaded sable male who was shown in good coat and was well presented. Unfortunately another male who was to short in the head for me and wide in skull. However, he has a kind expression, a lovely dark eye and a good ear carriage. He is good for bone and has good tight oval feet. Tail was also of good length. I would have preferred a slightly longer body length. Moved fair.

1st Collino’s Imaginist waxing Lyrical. 9 year old shaded sable bitch and one I have admired on many occasions. She was well presented and has a well fitted coat which showed off her feminine outline. She has a clean and pleasing head with the correct amount of stop. Lovely dark eyes which showed off her feminine expression. Her ears are well placed and used well. She was steady on the move and kept her top line well. It was a pleasure to award her VB  BVIB. When it came to BIS she was awarded BVIS

2nd Collins Orionsview Oiche Chuin at Rosscar. 7 1/2 year old tri colour bitch. Another who has a well fitted coat to show off her lovely feminine outline. Her head was pleasing with a kind expression. Her ears are well placed and she uses them well. She has a good turn of stifle and is good for bone. She was not totally happy on the move today but her movement did improve with confidence.

1st Beardsworth Maysinder Sapphire Reign. 1 1/2 year old very pretty feminine blue bitch. She was very well presented and I found her colour very clean. If my memory serves me correctly I noticed what a beautiful tail she had. She has a lovely head with lovely dark eyes which showed off her feminine expression. Her ears are well set and used well. She was good for bone with lovely tight oval feet. She has a good top line. On the move she was lovely to watch.

2nd Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Lady of Mystery. 1 1/2 year old very pretty Sable bitch also well presented and shown in good condition. Her head was slightly wider than  1st but she was very sweet. She is nicely balanced and is good for bone. Lovely to watch on the move. I love the way this owner/handler always talks to her dogs to reassure them.

1st Harvey’s Wicani Blue Myrabella. 11 month old stunning blue bitch and what a stunner she was. Apparently this was her first show and she showed and performed like a pro. If she were mine I think I would have named her “picture perfect “ because that’s exactly what she was. She had the most beautiful blue coat and was presented to perfection. Her head was so clean with no flare to the cheeks. Her stop was slight but perceptible and she has a good under jaw. She has lovely dark eyes setting off her beautiful expression and her ears are well placed and used well. She has a good body shape with a good lay of shoulder. She is good for bone and has a good length of tail. On the move she was light and graceful and took the whole experience in her stride. If she is showing and looking like this at only 11 months old what will she be like when she is fully matured. It was a pleasure to award her BPB  BB & BOB. And the icing on the cake was when the BIS judge awarded her BIS & BPIS.

2nd Wray- Ramsden’s Takhisis Midsummer Dawn. 1 year old sable bitch. Another lovely youngster who took the day in her stride.  Very attentive to her handler as are all the dogs from this kennel. She was very well presented and I learned today she was half sister to 1st. However, I found her quite different in head. She was very sweet with lovely dark eyes. Lovely ear set and carriage. Good length of neck with a good lay of shoulder. Good top line which she kept well while on the move and a good turn of stifle. Correct length of tail. She was steady and moved well.

1st Boyles Barrenclough Touch of Silk. 2 year old sable bitch. Again her head type was not for me. She is wider in the skull and deeper in stop than I would prefer. However, she has a lovely dark eye and a very sweet expression. Her ears are nicely placed and used well. She has a lovely feminine shape and her movement was fair.

1st Farthings Aldreen illusions in Blue for Didek. 3 year old well presented blue bitch. I found her head pleasing with a lovely dark eye. Her ears were well placed and she used them well. She wore a well fitted coat which showed her lovely outline. She has a good turn of stifle with the correct length of tail. On the move she was steady.

2nd Wray-Ramsdens Takhisis Lady of illusions. 2 year old pretty sable bitch who was not back in coat after her litter. She has a lovely expression with a lovely dark eye and a well moulded fore face. She has a good body shape and her feet are well rounded and neat. She has a good length of tail and on the move she was steady.
