EAST ANGLIAN COLLIE ASSOCIATION - AUGUST 2023 - SHOW 2
ROUGH COLLIE CRITIQUE

Firstly I would like to thank the committee of the EACA for inviting me to judge Rough & Smooth collies at this well run and friendly show. This has always been a club we have tried to support with our own dogs and always found the atmosphere friendly and welcoming. A big thank you to  my stewards for keeping my ring running smoothly and to all the exhibitors for having the courage to enter under me.
I would like to mention that the majority of dogs in both breeds were very well groomed and presented well but there were also a few dogs which could have benefited from a bath.

Veteran Dog: 5
1st Collino’s Wicani Altitude at Imaginist. 9 yr old Tri male and a male which I do admire. A lovely masculine head on this boy with the correct amount of stop. Slight but perceptible. He has lovely dark almond shape eyes which are set obliquely. Ears which are correctly placed and used well. He also has a good fill of muzzle.
He is a good size male with good bone and substance. He does carry quite a big coat. On the move he is steady. BVD

2nd Vogan & Vogans Lenosann Midnight Rascal. 10 1/2 yr old Tri male and one I’m not familiar with. Another lovely male who was well presented and in good coat. He has a pleasing head with a good fill of muzzle. Lovely almond shaped eyes giving a kind expression. Ears are set correctly and used well. Good bone and substance. Moved well.

Minor Puppy Dog: 3
This was probably one of the hardest classes for me on the day. Only three in this class but all three could have been awarded first place. However, first place did go to Skinners Ladnar Makeithappen for Nikal. 6 month Blue Merle boy who was so happy and really enjoying his day out. I also love the way the owner/ handler of this puppy talks to her dogs. She is so gentle and reassuring. This puppy has a pleasing head and a well moulded for face. Lovely dark eyes and well placed ears. He has a good length of neck and good body shape. On the move he was a typical puppy having a good time.

2nd Ross’s Sillito Blue Wizzard. Another lovely youngster having a good time. 9 month old Blue Merle Dog. Pleasing head with a good ear carriage and a good length of neck sweeping into a lovely top line. Good body length with good angulations. His colour just needs to clear.

Junior Dog: 1
1st Coopers Kelekona Hearts of Gold. 12 month old Sable Dog and another that has caught my eye ring side. My only criticism with this boy is I wish he was a bit bigger in height. However, he was very well presented and his well fitted coat showed off his lovely outline. He has a lovely clean head with the correct amount of stop. His ears are correctly placed and used to his advantage. He has a good length of neck which sweeps into a lovely top line. He has a good lay of shoulder with good front and rear angulations. His tail length is correct and his movement was a pleasure to watch.
