Midland Collie Club
Open show – Rough Collies
Sunday 30th July 2023

I wish to convey my genuine gratitude to the exhibitors who entrusted me with the honour of assessing their Rough Collies. This opportunity to evaluate some beautiful dogs has truly been a privilege. Additionally, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Midland Collie for offering me this chance to engage in such a rewarding experience.

Class 1 – Veteran - 3

  1.  CH MEJOLA DATE AND FORTUNE ShCEx – Mrs J White

A blue merle who was unquestionably male.  Good size and structure, well balanced head with moderate stop, good eye shape and well set ears.  Deep chest and well sprung ribs.  Held a firm top line on the move, he moved well in the class but really came to life in the final run round of the day with a change of handler who had a far bigger stride.  BVD & BVIS.

  1. LYNMACK STARMAN – Miss A M Mills

Medium sized sable male who was finer all through, that being said he had a pleasing expression with correct shaped eye, good stop and ear carriage, could for me have a touch more underjaw. Pleasing mover holding good topline.
  2. SAMHAVEN TIME IS MONEY WITH NIKAL – Miss S Skinner

One I have judged previously and today was the oldest in the class.  This tri colour girl is a credit to her owner who handled her very sympathetically.  She has a feminine head of good proportions, lovely eye and good ear set, balanced angulations front and rear, just found the uneven ground a bit of a challenge.  BVB

Class 2 – Minor Puppy Dog - 5

  1. BRILYN WORTH THE WAIT – Mrs S Hawkins

Sable dog who is well balanced both in head and outline. Nice dark correctly shaped eye, nicely set ears giving a sweet but masculine expression.  He has good bone and substance.  Moved well around the ring a very promising youngster. RBPD

  1. SILUTO BLUE WIZARD – Mrs Y J Ross

Blue dog who appealed for shape and outline.  Super reach of neck, head is coming together nicely with correctly placed eye and well set ears.  On the move he held a good top line with a free and easy stride.

  2. LADNAR MAKEITHAPPEN FOR NIKAL - Miss S Skinner
  3. DIDEK ONCE IN A BLUE MOON – Mr D & Mrs D Farthing

  1. LADNAR MAKEME A WINNER – Mr D A & Mrs S P Randall

Nicely marked and coloured blue merle dog of good size and substance who has a lovely masculine head, correctly shaped and placed eye and well filled muzzle, with a strong underjaw.  Well angulated in front and rear which gave balance when standing and on the move, super length to his tail. Another very promising puppy BPD

  1. KELEKONA HEARTS OF GOLD – Ms C E Cooper

Sable boy who made my decision very difficult, just preferred the fullness in muzzle of my winner.  Again this young male had some excellent qualities, super reach of neck well used and tipped ears, very good overall confirmation, easy movement, both boys should have a good future and nice to see quality youngsters.

Class 4 – Junior – 3

  1. GATAJ TURN BACK TIME – Mrs M A Lockyer

Masculine but sweet expression on this sable boy, head handles well with good moulding to foreface, correct stop and eye placement. Well boned with good depth to chest, moved soundly holding a good topline.
  2. TIGANLEA REMEMBER THE DAYS – Miss S Edwards

Sable who had pleasing expression with a correct stop, nice eye and filling to foreface, I would have liked a stronger underjaw to fully complement his head.  On the move he was a little erratic but sound enough once settled.

  1. ESSANJAY AGAINST ALL ODDS – Mrs K Phillips

Tri dog who is without doubt all male.  Good colour and in super coat, his head handles well with good length and correct stop, leading into good reach of neck.  On the move he looked at little heavy in front which I think could be improved by him losing a little weight.

  1. MARVALAN SPIRIT OF ROCK (IMP POL) – Miss G Beaden

I found this tri appealing for his overall make, shape and balance, standing he was a picture of elegance.  He has a super reach of neck, balanced head, moderate stop and well set ears.  He has a gleaming black coat which was fitted enhancing his make and shape.  On the move he had a free easy gait covering the ground well.  BD, BOSIS

A lot to like about this boy for his make and shape and he really commands attention on the move where he is effortless and free. His head is clean with a well placed stop enhanced by ears which he uses well.  I just would like more of him and his colour to be clearer. RBD
  2. NO MORE HEROES DU CLOS DE SEA-WIND JW (IMP FRA) - Mr R P & Mrs M A Shipp

Sable who has a lovely masculine expression, head is balanced with good eye shape and size.  Good depth of chest and coat is in super condition.  He just seemed sluggish on the move today and didn’t show himself to his full potential.

This young lady decided to give her handler a really hard time as she was a bit distracted by some children playing basketball.  She has a good head with correct stop, ear carriage and eye placement, with a nice reach of neck.  On the move she was a bit erratic but did enough to earn her place.
