Just the one main show this weekend, National Working & Pastoral Breeds Society, (NWPBS) held at Malvern.
The show ground at Malvern is run by the Three Counties organisation and it is they who can request/allow restrictions for all shows and in view of the very high temperatures recently did alter rules regarding use of Gazebo and other items, for which many exhibitors were grateful. Set under the shadow of the Malvern Hills, I am sure many would like to thank all the NWPBS Committee and Secretary, Lucy Mottram for all their updates prior to the event,
This is a Sub-Group Ch show for just Working & Pastoral Breeds and is held over the single day. This year, Collies Rough were judged by Jean Kenny, (Leesaund) perhaps a name not familiar to some of the newer exhibitors in the breed. Jean has been in roughs for more years than I care to mention and early on piloted her sable boy, Barnville Country Squire (Corydon King Hector ex Lynway Secret Love) born in 1974 and made his mark in Veteran classes. Jean and her late mother were always ringside at many of the shows and always supported their local Breed Club Midland Collie where Jean is a Life Member. Jean is also an approved CC awarding judge but due to health issues, her last CC appointment was at LKA in 2008
Originally, the posted entry was for 90 exhibits, but, obviously due to many factors, mainly the heat the absentee rate was high with approx. 30 absent.
Her choice of both CC & RCC winners in males was a repeat of her open Show appointment last year with Jo Williams and Maverick (Ch Mejola Top Gun) taking his 6th CC. Sired by Corydon The Ringmaster out of Mejola Special Reserve and he won the Open Class of 8. Standing 2nd and taking home another RCC was Clovis, Ch Beldones Ivory Star for Brian & Odile. Sired by Ch Camanna Codename out of Beldones Ebony and Ivory. Other to win classes were: Kelekona Hearts of Fire, Mejola Endeavour, Seoirsin Shooting star Via Capriora, Ingledene Absolute Legend, Pelido Invictus, Ladnar Makeithappen For Nikal, Astromelias Ulises Via Capriora. Most of whom were alone in their classes.
There was a mixed Special Beginners class, and alone here was Lemivee Connie’s Songbird who was the declared BPBIB for Alex Mills who kindly let me know of her win.
In bitches, taking another CC, was Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress for Lene Newman, this is her 5th CC, having won her last one in 2024. She is sired by Corydon The Ringleader out of Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill. And she too won her Open class of 13 with 4 missing. Margaret & Rob Shipp had Tremaro Million Dollar Baby entered in PG and she topped this class of 10/3. She is a sable, sired by Very Special Agent Silvestre out of Tremaro Kind of Magic and entered the world 21st April 2024.
Other class winners were: Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp, Gataj Miss Sparkles, Tremaro Fantasy, Gataj First Crush at Treweek, Jopium Follow My Heart and Aldreen Illusion In Blue For Didek.
BOB went to Lene and Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress, BPIB was between Kelekona Hearts of Fire and Gataj Miss Sparkles with BPIB going to Melissa and her sable lady. Derrick and Dianne Farthing took BVIB with their blue lady, Aldreen Illusion In Blue for Didek and Alex Mills was Best Special Beginners.
All our representatives went forward to their groups, with a few judging changes, Lene was Short-listed by Derek Smith in the Adult Group. Mellissa was placed by Group Judge Lynne Salt to PPG3. With Gataj Miss Sparkles. Alex Mills and Lemivee Connie’s Song Bird took a creditable G3 under replacement judge Steve Atkinson. The veteran Group winner, under another change of judge was not a rough, but our own Marianne Benton and her smooth, Ch Oakestelle Artemis from Karen Angier. Other notable wins for our roughs were from the husband and wife team, Simon and Pauline Luxmore-Ball, who both received entries from Jo Williams and Mejola Endeavour (Morse). Under Simon in the Yearling Stakes a 1st place and £25, and in the Junior Stakes judged by Pauline, a 2nd place and another £20 was added to the winner’s pot.
However, just as judging was completed, our Judge, Jean Kenny felt quite unwell and medical support was required from both the NWPDS and fellow exhibitors who helped Jean to recover. As Jean suffers from the after effects of Long-Covid, no one was going to take any chances and support from the local Ambulance was also called but I am pleased to report, having received a call from Jean, that she was allowed to drive home (after a few hours) and is now taking life a little easy but really wanted me to publicly thank ALL the exhibitors and others who helped her with offerings of water and sun shades etc. for which Jean is extremely grateful

Here is an update on the Funeral details for my mum, Aileen Speding
We have abided by her last request that her funeral will be just a PRIVATE / FAMILY event. It will be held Monday 27th July at the local Crematorium.
She requested only family flowers only but would prefer donations to be made to the Cinnamon Trust – details as follows
The Cinnamon Trust is a national charity for older people, the terminally ill and their pets. Our primary aim is to help keep people and their pets together, by assisting with pet related tasks such as dog walking, pet care and short-term fostering (when an owner faces a spell in hospital). This companionship is vital in keeping loneliness at bay, maintaining wellbeing, and providing peace of mind. The Cinnamon Trust has a community of wonderful volunteers and people who offer foster homes.

I would like to thank you ALL for the personal messages, cards, flowers and mentions you have all made in respect of my mum and my mentor, and in view of her funeral request, we have agreed to hold A CELEBRATION OF AILEEN AND ANTOC a bit later in the year, hopefully at a show, with Tea and Cake to celebrate her wonderful life in dogs. Once I have sorted this, you will all be welcome to attend.
