Rough Collie Breed Notes

For those who follow these notes for results and other breed related issues, with the demise of the actual Our Dogs Newspaper these notes and items may now be more relevant . I would like to thank you all, and hope that your support, from exhibitors, clubs and others will continue. I try to report the facts and results often  reported to me (and could be considered as  “Second-hand” ) but I do try to remain un-biased where possible and to confirm issues if needed. If others do not like the content, they do not have to read as there are other sources / Breed Note outlets available.
This week, we had rough classes at Smooth Collie Club of GB Ch without CC’s. Richmond Ch show at Loseley Park and Scottish Collie Open Show.
Starting with SCCof GB where classes for Roughs are scheduled alongside their Ch show at Stoneleigh. These  had Karen Kennedy centre stage. Karen is approved for quite a few breeds within our group and is based in Lincolnshire.
From the 9 males and 14 females, she found her BOB in Sophie Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Lady of Mystery who already holds a Bel. Ch Title along with other awards collected in Europe. RBB was Jayne Llewellyn and Starlenga Nina Simone .Best Dog was a nice win for Janine Hanson and Jards Ring Presence with Reserve Best Dog and BPD was another new name, Afterhero Nutcracker (Imp Hungary) in the ownership of a Ms S Roberts. With Sophie collecting BPB with Takhisis The Lady Is A Tramp. Best Veteran was Hannah Lyall and her well-known Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas VW ShCEx
In the final awards, judged by Bev White (Maneric) Sophie and her sable lady collected the top award of BIS. BPIS went to Afterhero Nutcracker (Wicani Woldsman ex Afterhero Yasha’s Legacy) with all other awards being won by Smooths, who were judged by Jenny Miller (Feorlig) who is due to judge Roughs at Darlington shortly.
Meanwhile Scottish Collie held their Open Show on Sunday, at Crawfordjohn Hall, and grateful thanks to Show Secretary, Alyson Carmichael who kept all of us up to date with the day.
Catherine (Kate) Hollinshead (Starlyn) was the judge here but she had quite small entry on the day and also, from this, there were absentees. The entry figures were 38 collies, including 17 for SAC judge, Gordon Harran. Gordon is an approved RKC Judge for both Gundogs and Toy, along with BIS.
Best Dog was Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian and the Brooker family, RBD went to Michelle Mitchell and family with Avonfair Aloysius. BPD to Pauline Sibbald and By D’scossio Quiet Strength at Telforth with Kourika Frosted Ice winning Veteran for Nancy Houlihan.
In bitches, BB went to the ever young Dreamy, Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian for the Brooker family with another nice win for Michelle & family with Denfris Rocco Barocco for Avonfair (Imp Rus). Taking RBB, Sweetmints Yasmin at Roughrigg (Imp Nor) won Puppy for Jim & Morag and the Baby puppy winner was Jopium Timeless Beauty who ended up Best Baby Puppy In show, as the only entrant.
BIS went to Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian, Reserve BIS to Michelle and Avonfair Aloysius, BOSIS to Dreamy, Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian and BPIS to Pauline and By D’scossio Quiet Strength at Telforth
Gordon Harran (Macgregor) had 3 quite well filled classes for his SAC entry and found the following as his winners: Sweetmint’s Yasmin at Roughrigg (Junior); Salsina Love Me Do at Whitecraigs (Post Grad) and the Open winner, Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches completed his classes.
Richmond, held for the final time at Loseley Park before moving to a new central venue saw Graham Hill (Dimland) receiving a paper entry of 50/53. Graham is no stranger to our breed, having first awarded CC’s in 2013 at Belfast and his last appointment was at LKA 2024. As usual there were absentees, according to Higham, 12 were marked missing
It is not often, within our breed, that a car leaves in the morning, arrives at a show, and then leaves with a NEARLY FULL HOUSE – allow me to try and explain.
Miranda Blake and her entries, collected Lene Newman and her exhibit, set off for Richmond and came home with BOB, 2 CC’s, 2 RCC’s, 1 BPIB, BPB and a Group Shortlist
To summarise, Dog CC, his first from Minor Puppy, and handled in the challenge by Hannah Lyall, was Corydon World Vision, or Harry as he is known at home, won the CC. Sired by Ch Corydon Christopher (to whom Graham had awarded the CC to the last time he judged) His dam is Corydon Cristiana, a daughter of Christopher. He was also BPD
The RDCC was Corydon The Baronet JW, a tri who already holds a CC and a couple of reserves, he won Limit. Sired by Corydon The Baron out of Corydon Agatha Cristal.
There were no entries in Veteran, Yearling and Novice. The Puppy class was again with-held with other winners being: Mejola Endeavour (Junior) for Jo Williams; Di Collino and Imaginist A Griffin’s Mark too Graduate. Val and Ingledene Absolute Legend won PG whilst Maxine won Open with her Demelewis Silver Spur at Corydon.
The BCC was a 6th for Lene Newman and Saga, Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress who is sired by Ch Corydon The Ringmaster out of Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill and she won Open. The RBCC completed the Corydon day as Corydon Cristal Vision  sired by Corydon The Baron out of Corydon Agatha Cristal won Limit.
BPB was Corydon Perfect Vision.  Others to win classes were: Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp for Sophie, who won Puppy and Novice;  Mejola Some Girls Do for Jo Williams won Junior; Yvaine Angel Silvestre at Hagneetat Imp Bel) won Yearling for Steve Toogood; Di Collino and Imaginist My Fair Lady won Graduate and Valerie and Wanda were alone in Veteran.
In the challenge, BOB was Lene and Saga, who went on into the group under Tom Mather and was shortlisted.
So many congrats to both Miranda and Lene and to all concerned as the majority of main winners were sired by Corydon Stock.

Finally, thanks to Stef Flower, who has let me know that she managed to attend Newtown Canine Open show as a good friend offered her a lift, as she had to miss the previous shows due to car issues. These were soon forgotten when her Serenlas She’s On Trend, (Tigi) took PG2 and PPG1, whilst her other entrant, Ash, Androma Dreamcatcher at Serenlas won BVIS, a sack of dog food and £10.00 all under Pastoral Group/Breed Judge  Sandra Gibson.
