Rough Collie Breed Notes
Friday 25th September 2026
As your Breed BEC, and Chairman of the RCBC, I discussed with the Secretary of the Rough Collie Breed Council, the possibility of engaging the services of Jeff Horswell to hold an On-Line Seminar concerning the future of the JEP (Judges Education Programme) following a recent review and update. It was a well-attended evening with some excellent points discussed.
A precis of which, thanks to Christine is available on the RCBC web pages/Collielife and hopefully, later, within these notes.
Changes to requirements for all Judging Levels will be included, possible changes for existing judges enrolled via the JEP and reminders for all established judges.
Some of the details are yet to be confirmed as the RKC are still reviewing possible merger of breed clubs, CC Allocations and other items which could affect the final issue of the JEP Review changes but thanks to Christine a summary will be published shortly.
Saturday morning saw an early start for Officers and Committee of Midland Collie. Not only were they holding their Open Show, they also held a BAD/MCE and Assessment Day. The entry for the Open show, held at the RKC Building was 43, with a few missing on the day. Maybe the change in date, being held the day before both Darlington & N&D Ch shows had some effect, the judge was Lorraine Bolton, (Rikarlo) who has had an interest in roughs for many years but has also produced Champions in many other breeds including Welsh Corgi Cardigan.
The first class of the day was Baby Puppy D/B and won by the only entrant, Unique Dream Con Collina Over Barrenclough (imp Pol) for Lynda Boyle. Steff Flower won Veteran with Androma Dreamchaser at Serenlas (Imp Slv); With no MP entries, heading the Puppy class was Corydon World Vision and Miranda, who also won Novice. Jo Williams took Junior with Mejola Endeavour; Ingledene Spirit Is Legend for Fivejays won Graduate for Mesdames Radford-House and Durrant. Sue and Dave Randall won PG with Ladnar Call Me Maybe (brother to their well-known Ladnar Call My Name, Vince) whilst another, Ladnar Makeithappen for Nikal won Limit for Shelley Skinner and Corydon The Baronet JW took Open for Miranda.
Lorraine’s choice of BD wen to Jo Williams and Mejola Endeavor with Miranda and The Baronet in reserve. BPB also belonged to Miranda, handled by Hannah Lyall, was Corydon World Vision with Stef Flower taking BVD with Ash.
After completion of dog judging, Asst Secretary, Alex Mills (Lemivee) had some nice SAC classes to judge and found her winners as: Corydon World Vision in Junior D/B; Wicani Dulcibella Gyda Maysinder in PG D/B and in Open, Siluto Blue Wizzard at Amberwish.
Now to the ladies, and Taking Veteran, the well-known Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas Vw ShCEx and Hannah Lyall. MP was Virel Actis Over Barrenclough (Imp Pol) for Lynda Boyle who also won Puppy and Novice. Jo Williams took Junior with Mejola Some Girls Do. Wicani Dulcibella Gyda Maysinder and Mary Beardsworth won Graduate. Steff Flower won PG with Serenlas Truly Scrumptious. Jayne & Carl Llewellyn won Limit with Salsina Blushing Rose and Miranda took Open with Corydon Cristal Vision. BB went to Miranda and Salsina Blushing Rose took RBB.
BOB & BIS to Miranda and Cristal Vision, RBIS to Mejola Endeavour. BPIS also went to Miranda with World Vision and BVIS to Ash, Androma Dreamcatcher at Serenlas (Imp Svn).
After a photo session, many packed their bags and dogs into cars and set off north to the Darlington Ch Show and Jenny Miller along with the debut of Sue Beare (Jemspark) at Northumberland & Durham.
Darlington, at Ripon, was the next general championship show with Roughs being 2nd in the ring and the club Ch show for Northumberland & Durham, held alongside and judging here started first.
Sue Beare,(Jemspark) was making her Ch show judging debut being one of many who came through via Grandfathering and had worked through part of the JEP. It was an interesting and varied entry for her of 84 roughs (with absentees) and in the absence of Secretary Josh Blackburn, this small but hard-working Committee started with Sue Hawkins acting as steward to Sue Beare.
Dog CC went to the winner of Limit, Ladnar Call My Name, fresh from his win of the CC at the recent Yorkshire CC, now with 3 Official CC’s in his paws, we can now call him a Champion, although all his previous wins still count. Just in case you have forgotten, his sire is Myriehewe London Calling out of Ladnar Izadorable and is owned and bred by Dave & Sue Randall.
The RDCC, standing 2nd in the same class, was Sue Harris’s Geosamka Loves To Love at Ithilien, handled by Jo Hodges. This sable boy has been collecting some good awards during the year and is sired by Jopium Front Runner to Geosamka out of Sea Dreamer’s Gracy Love at Geosamka and he was born in October 2023 and already holds a CC and a few reserves.
BPD was Miranda and Corydon The Visionary, with BVD going to Lynda Boyle and Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW ShCEx OSW VW
Others to win classes included: Melissa won MP with By D’cossio Timeless Soul at Gataj, Junior went another of Melissa’s Gataj Just Like Jesse James. Malouines Never Ending Story for Mrs Penachio took Graduate, although alone. Also, alone in Post Grad was Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches for the McCarte family. Winning Open was Vanessa with Ch Chelborn Gambling List.
Now to the ladies, with slighter better class numbers, at the end of this session, the BCC, her first , following on from a recent RCC win went to the winner of Limit, Beldones Fantasy. A sable, owned by Brian & Odile, she is sired by Ch Beldones Toucher du Bois out of Beldones California, as Odile was already in the challenge with their puppy, she was moved by Debbie Pearson. Winning another RBCC, to add to her extensive collection was Vanessa and Ch Skabona If I saw You In Heaven for Chelborn (imp Swe), and I am sure by now, you are all aware of her breeding as she already holds 6 CC and numerous RBCC wins to her credit. BPB went to Melissa and Gataj Miss Sparkles, with a nice VB win for Lorraine Quince and her sable Thistlewing Celtic Soul for Karafaye. (Ch Karafaye Scotch Blend for Thistlewing ex Yenroc Scottish Harmony at Yenroc) and she was born September 2019 and bred by Brenda Welsh.
Other class winners were: Beldones Orange Blush (MP);Your Majesty Angel Silvestre (Junior) Uffspring Unique Espoir (Yearling); Salsina Love Me Do for Whitecraigs (Graduate); Siluto Silvary Blue Moon (PG);
At the end of quite a long day, Sue chose Beldones Fantasy for BIS, RBIS to Vanessa and her blue, BPIS to Melissa and Gataj Miss Sparkles and BVIS to Lorraine and her sable.
Whilst all this was happening, Darlington Roughs were started in an adjacent ring with Jenny Miller (Feorlig) centre stage. Perhaps it was good planning as our breed followed Scottish Terriers, also judged by Jenny with an entry of 33.
Jenny who last judged Roughs at Paignton in 2024 and her first was at EACA back in 2022 for males. Today she had a good entry of 76, but as usual there were quite a few missing.
Her choice for the DCC was Corydon The Grandmaster, known as Kasper, who won the Open class of 8. Sired by Corydon The Ringmaster out of Corydon Moonflower. This is the 2nd CC for Kasper, who annexed his first at Blackpool earlier this year.
Having just won the CC at N&D, Dave & Sue collected another RDCC with now Ch Ladnar Call My Name JW who won Limit. BPD was between Melissa and her By D’cossio Timeless Soul at Gataj and Miranda with Corydon The Visionary who took this award. Lynda Boyle won another Veteran class with Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW ShCEx OSW AND VW.
For the ladies, a 2nd CC went to Margaret Harrison and her sable, Cambrogan Lady of Loch’aber at Cariadhaf who won the Open class. Her 1st CC came from Morag McCarte at the recent WELKS. This little lady has been knocking on the door for a while. Sired by Cariadhaf Crazy Dream out of Cariadhaf Cookies and Cream at Cambrogan, she is bred by close friend Stacy Steven, who had been entered by was unable to attend and see this lovely win.
Taking yet another RBCC was Vanessa and her Ch Skabona If I Saw you in Heaven for Chelborn. Best Puppy bitch was decided between Beldones Orange Blush and Gataj Miss Sparkles. Veteran was a lovely win for Daphne Iley and her blue, Call Me A Dreamer In Blue For Ileyda Della Verde Scozia.
Other class winners were: Junior – Your Majesty Angel Silvestre at Gataj (Imp Bel) for Melissa. Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Gold Mist took PG; Melissa returned to win Limit with Gataj All The Glitters.
In the final challenge for BOB, this went to the sable bitch who had Jackie Stubbs judging the group. BPIB was another to add to his collection for Corydon The Visionary and the puppy group judge was Ian Blackshaw. Daphne took BVIB and here the group judge was Irene McManus.
All judging for Darlington show was completed before the end of Northumberland & Durham making it a very long day for some, including the judge.
