Rough Collie Breed Notes

Not many kennels are able to say how influential one of their dogs is, but in this case, it is not a male but a female in the form of Hazelnut des Vergers de Iacchos, born in March 2012. Known at home as Rosie, this sable lady originated in France but was sired by Ch Tiganlea Best of Times for Rayawna out of Ella's Song Du Clos De Montamer. (Who was a daughter of the well-known Vol de Nuit du Clos de Montamer)

Rosie was shown with some success gaining quite a few awards and her KCSB but it was in the whelping box she excelled.
In her first litter, sired by John & Caroline’s Ch Chantique Huggy Bear for Tiganlea, she produced the legendary, Ch Tiganlea Tinkerbelle for Revdvikki, winner of BOB at Crufts in 2019 and a total of 13 CC and numerous Reserve CC wins, although she was always handled, to perfection, by John.
In the same litter was Tiganlea Fairy Tale and Tiganlea Tickled Pink for Shelfpark, both of whom also did a fair bit of winning for their respective owners and also gained KCSB entries
Rosie was mated again, this time to Ch Two Tone for Tiganlea, (Ch Ladnar Kingfisher ex Tiganlea Time To Party) and in this litter we find Ch Tiganlea Tone Down born in 2015, he also won well taking 3 CC’s and a few reserves
In her last litter, sired by Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be Forgotten, in 2017, yet more winners arrived including the multi-titled Int Ch Tiganlea Make Good Time, who also gained her UK title along with many European titles for Monika Bardos. Shown by John, this little lady annexed good wins at 2 separate World Shows, once in Amsterdam in 2018 where she took her Junior WW title and later on in Geneva where she won BOB and another World Winner title. Also, in the same litter was Ch Tiganlea Too Good To Be True, another good winner for the kennel.
So, if memory serves, Rosie was the dam of quite a few winners, totalling approx. 25 CC’s between them including, “ World Winner Titles” Crufts CC & BOB winner, and many memories for all owners and her breeder.

Now to the main event of the weekend, Driffield Ch Show, now in a new home , with a few teething problems, this show re-located from its original home to Stafford and prepared to celebrate its Golden Jubilee of 50 years, listing itself as “The Friendly Show” the committee certainly tried hard and kept all up to date via social media and other media.
Our breed judge was yet another handing out CC’s to roughs for the 1st time in the form of Mrs Terrie Cousins-Brown. Based in Swansea, Wales she has recently been elected to the committee of WKC and is already a Pastoral Group judge having been listed for Bath in 2021 and Bournemouth in 2024.
Having received an original entry of 75, counting up via Higham Press it would appear that 6 males and 10 females were absent.
Lynda Boyle opened the class wins with wins in Spl Beg for Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW ShCEx VW, followed by taking the next class, Veteran, with him as well.
Miranda Blake took Puppy with Corydon World Vision but with just 1 present in Puppy, this class award was Withheld. Melissa and Gataj Just Like Jesse James won the Junior class of 3. Robin Blaikie and Kourika Dancing On Ice won his Yearling class, also with 3 present. There were no entries in Novice or Graduate, but Val Geddes handled Ingledene Absolute Legend to win over Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches in PG.  Limit, a full class of 5 was headed by Eileen Pullin and her Barrenclough Diamond Dawn at Myjacks. Open, originally a class of 10, had 3 absent but this was headed by Christine Collins and Ch Triburle Bluebolero.
The CC, his 4th went to Christine and Rio, Ch Triburle Bluebolero, to whom Terrie had awarded BD and subsequent BIS at  London Collie Open Show in 2024. This blue is sired by Fridens Xtra Chance for Salsina, out of Rowlands Blaithin Deas at Triburle. Interesting to note that his dam carries lines to Caronlea and is also a grand-daughter of Vol de Nuit du Clos de Montamer but also carries lines to Christine’s Choco Pops des Emeraudes.
Standing 2nd in Open was Corydon The Grandmaster, a sable for Miranda Blake, he took home the RCC. Born in May 2020, he is sired by Corydon The Ringmaster out of Corydon Moonflower and was BCC Junior of the year recently and is known at home as Kasper and already holds a CC.
BPD was an automatic win for Miranda and Corydon World Vision by Ch Corydon Christopher out of Corydon Christiana and he celebrates his first birthday in December. BV was Lynda Boyle.
Now to the ladies, Lynda Boyle won SBB although alone with Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough, followed by another class win in Veteran for Val and Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda. In the MPB class of 3, was the multi-owned tricolour,  Afterhero Fantasma, who originated in Hungary and has owners currently listed as Michelle Davis, Jake Walsh and Abby Lusty heading this class.
Melissa and Gataj Miss Sparkles won PB with 4 present, Kathleen Morey and Brookynut Happy Feet won Junior. Mary Beardsworth handled Wicani Dulicibella Gyda Maysinder for her and husband Denis won Yearling. Although beaten in Puppy, Sophie and Takhisis Lady Is A Tramp won Novice. Alone in Graduate was Kiss Me Kate di Cambiano at Fivejays in the ownership of Marion Radford-House and Mrs F Durrant. Post Grad had 7 entered and winning this was Rob & Margaret Shipp with Tremaro Million Dollar Baby.  Limit, with 3 present went to Jayne & Carl Llewellyn and Salsina Blushing Rose. Taking Open was Vanessa and her blue, Ch Skabona If I Saw You In Heaven for Chelborn who was then awarded her 6th CC. Having won all previous CC’s in 2024 she has been collecting a few RBCC this year. Sired by Rising Light Scotland Yard out of Skabona Knocking on Heavens Door, she was born in Jan 2023.
Salsina Blushing Rose, who had won Limit, brought home the RBCC for Jayne & Carl. A sable, born in April 2024 is sired by Riverside Song Xplorer of Hearts out of their Artziak Secondhand Rose at Salsina and this is her first major award.
BP was declared as Afterhero Fantasma, handled as usual by Jake Walsh, BV to Val and Wanda.
In the final challenges, BOB and sent through to the groups was Vanessa and her Ch blue, BPIB to Jake Walsh, Best Veteran to Val, with Lynda Boyle winning BSB and her Timeless Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough. The judges for groups were as follows: Pastoral Group – Keith Baldwin, Puppy Group – Dr Andreas Schemell, Veteran – Ray Morland and Spl Beg – Richard Kinsey.
The only success I could find was a lovely PPG2 for Afterhero Fantasma and Jake Walsh.

Finally, the latest Breed Records Supplement covering April to June 2026 shows Registration numbers of just 54 for the 2nd quarter of 2026. The first quarter was only 98. So halfway through the year, our breed is recorded as having 152 registered against 2025 numbers of 79 and 107.
There were just 10 litters recorded, with 3 breeders recording 2 litters each. The outlook is worrying for those who care, as there will not be the stock around to compete (should all these pups be show quality!) at shows in the future.
There is 1 import recorded, although I know of a few more recently to add and 2 exports, another factor is that 55 are recorded under new ownership.
However quite a few collies, have recorded DNA test results for CEA/CH/DM and MDR1 along with some good Hip Scores, with varying totals from excellent at 2, to the high of 15. – Well done to those that are testing.
