Breed Notes
11th August 2023
As many of us are aware, there are highs and lows in dog shows and dog breeding!
How many of us have had “a Day to Remember” and the following day, something
happens to bring us back to earth with a big bang. This happened recently to
Miranda, having annexed a CC and enjoying the thrill, then, a moment not to enjoy
as she had to make that decision which comes to us all at some time to give her
lovely tri bitch, Evie, sleep
Evie was officially known as Demelewis Catch The Breeze at Corydon, and bred by
Maxine with whom she won the first of 2 CC’s at CCW in 2015 from Val Geddes and
this was followed by a RCC at Yorkshire Collie and a 2 nd CC the following year at
Scottish Collie from Jill Oliver. She was sired by Ch Corydon Once In a Blue Moon
out of Demelewis Mooncatcher. Although she won well in the ring, as did her litter
mates, it will be her influence on the Corydon and other kennels which will be
missed. Her offspring included Champions in Australia, Finland and South Africa and
G. Dam to Ch Corydon The Ringleader, Ch Mejola I Am Persuasive, Ch Karafaye
Scotch Blend at Thistlewing to name a few. To Maxine, and Miranda you have the
memories to look back on, and to Max, you have that lovely Welsh Dragon for
Evie’s BIS win to remind you of all the good times.
Friday saw many arrive at the Westpoint show ground for Paignton & District Ch
show where Rod Oldham was judging. Rod who owns the Towmena affix last judged
our breed at WKC in 2017. His Dog CC winner, is no stranger to winning at
Paignton, in fact he took his 1 st CC here back in 2021, his 8 th in 2022 and today took
his 13 th CC – well done to Ch Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo, bred by Liam Kelly his
sire is Ch Samhaven Sound Track and his dam is Samhaven From The Top Drawer (a daughter of Ch Samhaven Detox and grand-daughter of Ch Samhaven Toast
Marster) and he won Open with 8 entries, although not all present but those that
were, were either Champions or RCC winners. The RDCC went to the Limit winner,
Melissa and her Gataj Out of The Woods. BPD was John Congdon handling Brilyn
Worth The Wait, owned by Sue Hawkins, who sent me a message to say she was
unable to attend as she had puppies at home and sent John down with both of her
youngsters! John had quite a busy day as he also won Veteran with Jive and had to
find a handler for Brilyn Worth The Wait.
Other class winners in dogs were: Jo Hodges and Jopium Love on The Rocks; Gataj
Turn Back Time for Melissa; Vanessa and Chelborn’s Gambling List and Rachel Tilley
and her Ingledene Dark Moon Risin’ who was subsequently beaten in another class.
In bitches, the BCC went to the winner of Open, Melissa and her Gataj Good Time
Girl, her first CC following quite a few rcc wins. Born I December 2020 her sire is
Perfect Timing du Clos du Sea-Wind at Gataj out of Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind
at Gataj and she is a sable. Taking the RCC, and a message from her owner /
breeder Vanessa Cronk that Chelborn Gambler’s Wish won Yearling.
Other class winners were: John Congdon handling for Sue Hawkins and Brilyn
Shows The Difference. Louise Rae handling her own Gataj Majestic Hope; Paul Ross
won PG with his Most Majestic Timeless Touch at Samshernik whilst Melissa won
another class with Gataj Honey Bee. Veteran went to the only entrant, Jo Hodges
and Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm.
The other classes scheduled were Special Beginners Dog which had no entrants but
Margaret Scamp; a fairly local exhibitor won this with her Aaronwell Allure In Black,
recently purchased from John Congdon won SBB a class of 2.
BOB went to Alison and her Ch Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo but she withdrew from
the group but did complete a Lap of Honour, prior to the judging of the Group by
Tan Nagreecha with whom she has St Bernard’s in partnership. Well done Alison.
Best Puppy in Breed went to Fudge, Brilyn Worth The Wait, Sue Hawkins bitch
puppy, beating her litter brother and although John stayed for the puppy group
under Tony Allcock, he did not feature. I do not know if Margaret Scamp stayed for
the SBB Group, judged by Caroline Friend-Rees.
Best Veteran In Breed was Jo Hodges and Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm known
as Eva, and although I have seen many videos of this group, I cannot confirm that
she stayed. Such a shame as it was judged by Stuart Mallard who was ringside for
most of our Breed Judging.
I have received the sad news from Jo Marsh (Bermajo) that her husband Bernard sadly passed away last week.
Sincere condolences to Jo, the family and friends. Bernard's funeral is on Thursday 17th August 2023 at 10.45,
Barham Crematorium, Canterbury Rd, Canterbury, Kent CT4 6QU
and afterwards at the
Anchor Pub, High Street, Wingham, Canterbury, Kent CT3 1BJ.
