Midland Collie held their Championship Show on Saturday 11th February. The show was opened by Show Manager Andre Scott and a minute silence was held as a mark of respect for the recent passing of club patron, Rene Cousins, who had been associated with the club for many years. Judging soon got underway and the day passed smoothly. It was lovely to see so many new faces and we will be sure to welcome all next year when we make the move to a new venue, the KC Buildings at nearby Stoneleigh'.
Last Saturday saw the first Club Ch show of the year, when Midland Collie held their event at the Sports Connexion, Coventry.
The Committee is headed by Secretary Hannah Walder, ably assisted by Show Secretary and Treasurer, Sophie Wray-Ramsden. Michelle Davis takes care of the Trophies, whilst Brian Hawkins holds both posts of President and Health Co-Coordinator. Chairman is Tracey Goodwin and Show Manager is listed as Andre Scott. Hannah’s husband, Simon, takes care of the club web site along with being Health and Safety Officer on the day. Other committee members include, Charlotte & Lewis McLarty and Jan Milligan. The late Rene Cozens, along with Alan Jeffries were listed as Patrons.
The show had an interesting set of Judges, Uwe Nolke (Roysta’s) for the dogs, Chairman, Tracey Goodwin (Saheltra) for bitches and at the last moment a change to the published Referee, to Brian Hawkins from Jean Catliff (Mallicott) who had to withdraw due to pulled back muscles and could not face the car journey with husband John both of whom are Honorary Life Members.
The entry, widely published prior to the event was 104, made up of 48 dogs and 56 bitches and 2 NFC
Uwe Nolke was officiating for just the 2nd time in the UK; his first was at Ayrshire Collie in 2010 where he judged bitches awarding a 3rd CC to Caronlea Celtic Connection with Corisian but today was judging the males. There were actually 50 males entered but 13 were absent.
Both entries in Veteran were marked absent and taking MP was Gataj Turn Back Time for Melissa Lockyear, Puppy went to Riverside Song Unbelievable Guy at Stavods for Susan Clark and is imported from Romania and he also won Junior and Novice. Takhisis Lysander won Spl Yearling for Michelle Chaplin. Kourika You’ll Do For Me and Robin took Graduate, and the single entry Gataj Out Of The Woods JW won PG for Melissa. Chelborn That’ll Do won Mid Limit for Vanessa Cronk. John Congdon took Limit with Starlenga All That Jazz from Aaronwell. Finally, winning Open was Corisian Parisian Magic for Pat, Emma and Jo Brooker.
The CC, his first went to the Open winner, a sable, by Ch Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley out of Ch Paris Venise du Bois des Amazones for Corisian, born in April 202, no doubt I shall be corrected but is this the first home-bred Corisian winner for the Brookers?
Winning not only Puppy, Junior and Novice, was Riverside Song Unbelievable Guy at Stavods, known at home as Loki. He is owned by Susan Clark and also took home the Reserve CC. Susan has let me know of this lovely win and this was at his first ever show, having been bred by Olivia Cruscow, and purchased via Val & Derek Brown he arrived in the UK. Sired by Beldones Napoleon out of Riverside Song Julia and celebrates his first birthday in April 2022. Loki is not the first collie owned by Susan and she also confirmed that she has had a few roughs in the past (and still currently has some oldies). Although most her collies have been competing, with success in many Agility events , she has shown at both Crufts and Bath in previous years but, and it has taken her nearly 40 years on being owned by a rough to gain her first KCSB and RCC – well done to all concerned. Loki was also BPD
Now to the bitches, with Tracey Goodwin judging, she last judged at Bath in 2018 over both sexes. Her class winners included Ch Ladnar Inkheart (Veteran) for Dave & Sue Randall, Gataj Time After Time for Crufts judge Val Tame took MP and Novice. Tremaro Kind of Magic won Puppy for Rob & Margaret Shipp whilst kennel mate, Jackinstar Sandra Dee won Junior for the Shipps and handled in the challenge by Jake Walsh. Special Yearling went to Avonfair Secret Love Letter to Salsina and Jayne Llewellyn. Riverside Song Paloma Nera at Colcanis took Novice for Lucy Primmer, having been placed in previous classes.
Norma Larkin won another Graduate class with Rahlissa Coffee Cake for Denora whilst Revdvicki Ruby Tuesday at Tiganlea won PG for John & Caroline Tipper.. Mid Limit went to Gataj Good Time Girl and Melissa and Ladnar Inkspot took another class for Dave & Sue Randall. Mona, aka Ch Brilyn Mollycoddles ventured out following a break and took Open bitch and her 4th CC, repeating her win of the CC back in 2019, at this same show from Tracey’s mum, Sheila Withers. Just to refresh your memory, Mona was born in May 2017, sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Brilyn Glory Days.
RBCC went to Dave & Sue with a daughter of their Veteran lady and Val Tame took BPB with her new puppy, Gataj Time After Time. BVB also went to Dave & Sue with Ch Inkheart.
In the final awards, BIS was Sue and Ch Brilyn Mollycoddles, BOSIS and RBIS to the Brookers and Corisian Parisian Moon. BPIS to Sue Clark and Loki with Val Tame RBPIS. Dave and Sue were automatically BVIS as there were no males present.
