Breed Notes The first set of CC’s was available at Manchester, now firmly based at Stafford. Our judge was Tan Nagreecha (Chandlimore). This was his 2 nd appointment; his first was at Scottish Breeds in 2016. On paper it was a very good entry, especially for a Thursday but there were slightly more absentees (37 as marked by Higham) from the original 117 entered. This could well have been to the awful weather conditions forecast, folks coming down with bugs and possibly general apathy!
Roughs followed Smooths in the Argyle Hall Taking his 7 th CC was Ch Gataj Struck By Lightning for Melissa Lockyer, just to refresh your memories, his birthday is in March and he will be 4 years old. Sired by Lynmack Thunderstruck out of Gataj Girls Best Friend. Standing 2 nd in Open, and taking, I think his first big award was Takhisis Dream Weaver for Sophie Wray Ramsden. Born in August 2016, his sire is Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed out of Beldones Duchess of Dreams and he won the RDCC, to go with the RDCC his travel companion, the ASD Bruce had also annexed the same award. Well done boys Starlenga Just As Well is a sable, owned and bred by the Walker family and Louise made the journey down with companion, Michelle Mitchell, and this win, first time out, would be a great boost to mum Margo, now home following a spell in hospital. David Riddell won Sp Beginners with is Princess Jessie The Third. Bred by Kelly Svensen she is sired by Wicani New Cat On The Block out of A Frosty Kiss of the Holy Mountain. The CC, her first went to Beldones Magical Bliss, following on from her rcc win at CA with Gillyflower taking the reserve. BOB went to the sable bitch, BPIB to Rob & Margaret with their bitch puppy and BV to Dave &; Sue with Barrenclough Diamond Skies taking Best Sp Beginners. If you were to look at the pedigrees of the winners, it is interesting to note that there is a close relationship between the top winners via the Beldones breeding, so congratulations again to Brian & Odile However, although both the adult and puppy stayed for their respective groups we were not included. I could not find any Rough wins in stakes classes or even if we were represented. Sadly, I have to report on two more collie names no longer with us, firstly, Helen Kiltie from Scotland who campaigned one of the pretty Steelhurst bitches to her title, Ch Steelhurst Star Addition at Camregan and Ian Semple, son of Alec Semple of the well known Glencourse kennel which were very active in the late 1950-1960 with numerous winners including Ch Glencourse Gloria. Our condolences to both families. A full tribute will appear later. Carole Smedley |
