Breed Notes 2nd June 2023

This week covers quite a busy weekend, firstly a Bank Holiday, then a Gen Ch show and on the same day, a Club Open Show, followed by another Club Open show in Scotland.

Before reporting on the shows, some news regarding another collie that is competing in Agility this is Wicani Butterfly who was born in 2014, bred by Keith
and Angela Harvey but owned and trained by Pamela Kane. I understand she is the first collie to reach Level 7 in Agility back in 2020 and now has qualified for Platinum Level. We are lead to believe she is the only collie, Rough or Smooth to reach this particular level. Well done to all concerned and this shows how versatile our breed can be.
Now to the shows, starting with Bath Ch Show held on probably one of the best show grounds in the country, with exhibitor friendly layout, in/out tents and benching and immaculate close mown rings. Today the judge was Christine Gillingham, perhaps a name unknown to a few, who started in Roughs some
years back with a few Parkgrove collies and then progressed to Australian Shepherds. Based in Essex, this was her first Rough appointment although she
did ASD at Windsor recently and has also judged EACA Open in 2016 followed by British in 2018. Today she had an entry of 22 dogs and 58 bitches, although, according to Fosse, quite a few were missing on the day.
Taking an 11 th CC, repeating his win here last year, was Ch Samhaven Ballahanna Banjo for Alison Grainger. Sired by Ch Samhaven Sound Track ex
Samhaven From The Top Drawer he won Open then later in the day, Alison and her St Bernard won the Working Group!
Another repeat win, this time for Gataj Turn Back Time who annexed not only the RDCC but BPD/BPIB and 2 classes on the day. Other class winners were: Beldones Hugo Loris for Tonova (Mr & Mrs Noble) Triburle Bluebolero for Noel and Christine Collins, Rachel Tilley won with Ingledene Dark Moon Risin whilst a return to the ring for Caz Waterhouse saw her win with Lynmead Famous Lover. Robin Blaikie won with Kourika You’ll Do For Me and the start of a good day for “Team Hanvale” saw Hannah pilot Hanvale Arthur Shelby to win his class and Lynda Gautrey won Special Beginners with Lillyway Landwind.
Hannah’s piloting and handling skills were used to advantage, as, although alone, Roughrigg Red Lagertha won MPB, currently living at Hanvale but listed
for Morag & Jim McCarte. Melissa continued her show day with wins with Gataj Someone You Loved and Gataj Time After Time who won both Puppy and Novice respectively and then won PG with Shining Star du Clos De Sea-Wind. Other winners were: Hannah Lyall and Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas (Veteran); Rob & Margaret Shipp and Tremaro Kind of Magic (Junior); Andre & Chantal Scott who won with Chantique Strawberry Moon (Yearling); Collingvale Chin Chin, now in the ownership of Caz Waterhouse took Graduate; Val Tame won Limit with Riverside Song Xtra Sweet at Rahlissa and Hannah won Open with Ch Beldones La Vita Bella for Hanvale JW.

The CC, her 8 th went to Ch Beldones La Vita Bella, sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed out of Heather Lockyer du Clos de Sea-Wind bred by Brian & Odile and she was born in August 2016 and interesting to note that her last 3 CC’s have all been awarded by “first-time” judges for the breed.
Taking home the RBCC was the limit winner, Val Tame’s Riverside Song Xtra Special at Rahlissa. Sired by Jealous Guy du Clos de Sea-Wind out of Riverside Song Julia, bred in Romania by Olivia Cruscov and, apologies, if not, but this could be her first big award. BOB went to Hannah, Best Puppy to Gataj Turn Back Time, who stayed and was again short- listed by David Guy. Best Special Beginner to Lynda Gautrey who I
am told stayed but to no avail, as did Hannah with Simon doing the honours in the Group ring. I have no info for the Best Veteran group.

At the same time as Bath, Yorkshire CC held their Open show at their usual venue, there was a originally a nice entry of 42, including smooths, but as
usual, not all were present, The judge was Maureen Bywater (Tachnnamada) ) who chose from her male entry of just 9 present, her Best Dog in Phreelancer
Chill Phactor. Handled by Eleri, his owner. RBD to Brilyn Worth The Wait for Sue Hawkins who was also BPD and eventual BPIS. Bitches had a few more for Maureen to choose from and BB was the Junior, Serenlas Angel of Casatentola and Georgina Howard who was also BOSIS. RBB was Maysinder Sapphire Reign for Mary & Denis Beardsworth. BPB was Brilyn Shows The Difference for Sue. At the end of the day, BIS went Eleri and Ice, and RBIS to the smooth of Nick & Anne Smith, Ch & Int Ch Winter is coming to Tentola and these awards were decided by BIS Judge, Angela Harvey who also gave BVIS to Bellawave Caught In A Dream. The SAC classes were well filled on paper for Janine Hanson who found her winners as Siluto Misteriuosly Blue (Puppy); Uffspring Ultravox for Coloratura (PG) and Chill Phactor from Open.

Now a quick trip to Scotland where Liam Kelly (Ballahanna) was judging at ACC and a nice entry met for his approval, however his journey over on the ferry was quite eventful as the ferry had to return to Belfast due to a passenger having a severe emergency. Despite this, catching a later ferry, Liam arrived
Many Thanks to Secretary Morag McCarte and also to Naomi McDowall who sent down not only the pages but a list of the major winners, it is much appreciated This club also promotes Baby Puppy classes, where youngsters are brought to the show, for experience and they are not judged but purely for socializing and handling and these classes are of much benefit to all – well done.

The first class was veteran and Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian JW owned by Jo/Pat and Emma Brooker and handled by Jo. Although entries had been received, it was not until Junior dog that some were present. Winning this, and novice, was Thistlewings Andromeda. Yearling was won by Thistlewings Fire Dance at Bryany. Graduate went to Thistlewing Smokey Quarts and Corisian Parisian Magic won Limit with Culbrae Red Again taking Open. Best dog went to the Graduate winner and RBD to Corisian Parisian Magic.
In bitches, MP was Roughrigg Ragnar (who is a litter sister to the winner at Bath), Brilyn Look At Me won puppy. Chantique Sweet Rose won both Maiden
and Novice. Thistlewing Magic Lady took Graduate and Thistlewing Spell On You won PG. Limit was won by Roughrigg Remember Me and Open to Lorraine Quince and her Thistlewing Celtic Soul for Karafaye. BB went to the Graduate winner, with RBB to Limit and BPB to the puppy winner.

for Karafaye.
