Breed Notes
19th May 2023
Starting with news from Odile and Brian and a few results from the French ENE show, held at the weekend following Birmingham National.
Held in France, at Chateau Dobert, this show, the highlight of the year for many exhibitors from France. The overall entry, which I think included some Smooth Collies, was 187 and as usual, the normal UK contingency were also present. The weather, always a feature of this show gave rain, sun, rain and overcast conditions but this did not deter many, as I understand a great time was had by all who attended and thanks to both Brian & Odile, along with Luis who took on cooking duties .
The judge for bitches, was Andre Scott, (Chantique) and for the males Claire Cadot (Everblue) along with Philippe Duchesne.
Odile has messaged me with the main results: CAS and BIS males Dolce Venezia Operation Batallion (Just for Today of River Tweed ex La Dolce Vita du Bois des Amazones) Breeder M Charlery and owned by Furiati Bruno. RCAS: Revolver Eyes de Remember Our Love, breeder & Owner Marlene Marques and both of these winners came from the Open class.
In Bitches, judged by Andre, CACS & RBOS, Naomi Watts of Moon River (Eros du Chemindes Randonnees ex Jennifer Garner of Moon River) and she is bred by Christopher Lehuic. She is also the dam of Chantal & Andre’s Sherlock Holmes of Moon River for Chantique who already has 1 CC here in the UK.
Best Youth male was Starlenga Just As Well, handled by Louise Walker who had made the trip down from Scotland with Luis and Charlene. He is sired by Starlenga Curious George ex Beldones Just For Fun and is now in the ownership of Christophe Terryn as is his sire who is spending time in France.
Best Ch male was Ch Nyitramenti Vesuvius Vulcan (Ch Chantique Huggy Bear for Tiganlea ex Nyitramenti Jaffa) Owner breeder Janos Balazsovits.
Best Veteran male was Ch Scottlyme Midas Touch, bred by Dora Richter but owned by Mrs Peresne Csokona Bernadette, He is sired by Ch Jopium Touch of Soul for Triburle ex Scottlyme Irish Kiss) it must have a boost to Christine to see this son of the late Otis to take this award.
John and Caroline Tipper were also present and John’s handling skills were required when Elena Balazovitch won 3 classes.
Another message from Marianne Benton to confirm yet another good win for her and Keira who repeated her win of 2019 at Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Open show but this year she went BOB, Pastoral G1, Veteran Pastoral G1, Best In Show and obviously BVIS from Judges Ray Macdonald (Roanjora) and Jane Eyeington (Meadowvale)
Smooth Collie Club of GB held 2 Open shows, both scheduling Rough classes. Each show had similar entries for judges, Fay Hutchings (Collidach) and Jo White (Mejola) and these were 29 and 32 respectively
Interesting to note, as expected the main results were similar with Fay Hutchings choosing her Best Dog in Ch Brooklynson El Dorado and Marianne who was BOSIS. BB and BOB was Ingledene Crystal Vision of Phreelancer for Lene Newman and she was also RBIS and BPIS. BPD was Kelekona Hearts of Gold.
At the 2nd show, judged by Jo White, Lene also annexed BB/ BOB/RBIS/BPIS and BOSIS. Best Dog was Pedro, who was also RBOB. BPD was Kelekona Hearts of Gold with Lilith nae Sule of Kelekona taking RBB and to complete this list, Marianne won BVIB with (Keira) Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle.
Lancs & Cheshire held their Ch show at Thompson House Equestrian Centre, Standish, with judges Val Brown (Mertrisa) and Roz Makepeace) Lynaire, Smooth for Anne Smith and BIS to local judge, Robin Newhouse, Annecy
The entry advised prior to the show, and thanks must go to not only Julie Edwards but others who gave us 34 males with 11 marked absent, leaving just 23 in the ring.and 59 bitches. Not only were entry details advised but local traffic issues, for which are all grateful
Val Brown last judged at British in 2020 where she judged the bitches but today an interesting entry of males awaited her awards. Starting with 3 Minor Puppy, her class winner was Jopium Love On The Rocks and Jo Hodges, who also won Maiden. Melissa Lockyear won Puppy with the only entrant, Gataj Turn Back Time. Junior saw Christine handling her and Noel’s blue Triburle Bluebolero, known at home as Rio and was just 13 months and he to won a 2nd class of Novice, beating the MP of Jo Hodges.
Graduate and Monsolana Aspire to Inspire was alone and took this for Lynda Boyle. Incidentally, during the day, Lynda gave a talk on which was quite well attended on DM and the Background issues which should be addressed beforehand but unfortunately time ran out. Should anyone wish further information, please contact Lynda direct as she is more than willing to respond. She maybe contacted on drlynda.boyle1@btinternet.com or via FB Messenger or 01663.750738 or even ask her at the next show!
Now back to the show and Post Grad had 3 entered with Millubie Razzmatazz (Imp Serbia) taking this class for Tracey Brightmore, handled by Debbie Finney.
Limit was a full class of 8 and headed by Paulara Nowhere Man for Luis and Charlene Turner, handled, as usual by Luis.
Open was won by Brian & Odile with Beldones Rocket Man and the last class of the day, Veteran, went to Brenda Cooney and Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell
The CC, his 2nd went to the tri boy of Charlene Turner, his 1st CC was won at WECS last year from Gee McEntee. He now has 2 CC’s and a reserve, sired by Monsolana Bounty Taste for Aaronwell (Imp Rus) out of Camanna Cocomotion
And to the delight of Debbie Finney, the RCC went to Tracy Brightmore’s charge, who is sired by Guest Blue Star de Cathyja out of Millubie Key To My Heart and was born in Serbia in April 2020.
Best Puppy Dog was Jopium Love On The Rocks and Best Veteran went to Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell the grandsire of the MP.
Now to the ladies, judged by Roz Makepeace Lynaire, who last judged in Scotland in 2019. Today her entry was 59 but with 11 marked absent.
Starting with MP, having recovered from a long road trip to France, from Scotland, Louise Walker handled the family’s Chantique Tooth Fairy for Starlenga to win MP. Puppy went to Marjalu Misfit, another winner for Tracy Brightmore and handler Debbie Finney. Margaret & Rob Shipp own Tremaro Kind of Magic and she won Junior. Pomnenka My Fair Lady with Libanel won Maiden for the Carr & Dodsworth team.
Novice saw Christine winning with Triburle Taboo, who had annexed a 3rd in her previous class and she is sister to Triburle Bluebolero. Beldones Ebony & Ivory won Graduate for Brian & Odile. Post Grad saw Debbie Finney heading this with her own Millubie Rewind (Imp Serbia). Chantal and Andre Scott took Limit with Chantique Déjà Vu. Open was won by Jayne Llewellyn and Artziak Second Hand Rose at Salsina (Imp Sp) and the last class of the day was a lovely win for Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian JW, for Jo, Emma and Pat Brooker.
BCC, her 2nd to Jayne, RCC to Debbie and the sister of the dog RCC winner, Millubie Rewind. BPB to Louise and BVB to the Brooker family and Sweet Dreams to whom Roz had awarded her the CC the last time she judged.
Best of Breed went to Jayne and her bitch, BPIB to Jo Hodges and Jopium Love On The Rocks and BVIB to Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell.
Interesting to note, these results are really very similar to those at WECS in 2020, both winners were repeated, with the exception of the BCC, who was a sister of the WECS BCC winner. Also it is not often that both RCC winners are related.
Now to the final awards and congratulations to Ann Smith whose smooth winners swept the board, taking BIS/RBIS and BPIS – Well done
Finally, for those of you who recall David Round, late husband of Jasmine Round who founded the famous Jasand kennel, whose influence on our breed has been recorded for posterity. To celebrate his life, daughter Alison has let us know this will take place on August 19th at 1pm at Hartford Hall, 81 School Lane, Hartford, Northwich, Cheshire CW8 1PW. Should you wish to attend, please RSVP to Alison on allisonround@yahoo.co.uk or andyround23@yaloo.com by June 30th to enable all arrangements to be made.
Meanwhile, many many thanks for all your messages concerning husband Jim, who is hopefully recovering well (but not yet home) following his accident and broken hip. All your thoughts have been read and passed on they are a boost at this most difficult time. Thank you all
