Breed Notes
26th May 2023

This week all the news is from Scotland.    With 2 Ch Show reports and finally a change of judge at a forthcoming Ch show. So, let us begin with the change of Judge.
Morag McCarte now has KC Approval for the replacement judge for Mr M Wirth, who was due to judge bitches at ACC later in the year. He is now replaced by Rod Slater (Stanlox) STKCA
Now to Scottish Collie, headed by Secretary, Alyson Carmichael who promptly sent down a fully marked catalogue via e mail, if only every club secretary could do this, it would bring results to all, so much quicker. Thanks so much
SCC held their show on Saturday, with a few exhibitors staying over for the CC’s on offer at SKC the following day. The venue was Larkhall Leisure Centre, Larkhall and had attracted an entry of 69. Just before the show, due to issues at home the original BIS judge, Fran Kaye had to withdraw and was replaced by Mrs Janette Phillips (Philjanco)
On just his 2nd appointment for the breed, Josh Blackburn was judging the males. Of the 30 entered, with 9 marked absent.
There were just 2 puppies entered, one in each class. Jopium Love On The Rocks and Gataj Turn Back Time and they won MP & PD respectively with BPD going to Jo Hodges.
Although celebrating a 45th wedding anniversary, Christine and Noel Collins and Triburle Bluebolero won Junior. Yearling went to Thistlewing Smoky Quarts and Brenda Welsh. Thistlewing Andromeda, who had been 2nd in Junior, won Novice for Chloe Shorten. Kourika Frosted Ice and Nancy Houlihan won Graduate. PG went to Robin Blaikie and Kourika You’ll Do For Me. Corisian Parisian Magic won Limit for Pat/Jo and Emma Brooker. Open went to Julie Edwards handling Eleri Bluck’s Phreelancer Chill Phactor. The last class was Veteran and winning this was Brenda Welsh and Karafaye Scotch Blend with Thistlewing
Now to the challenge and what a thrill for Brenda to gain that final and qualifying CC with Conel, now just  8 years young, he is bred by Lorraine Quince, and I think this is her 2nd Champion. He is sired by Corydon Winds of Victory out of Corydon Lafavourita avec Karafaye and he is a lovely shaded sable and was also BVD. His previous CC’s were awarded by Miranda Blake at N&D in 2019 and his 2nd at Darlington from Joe Smith in 2021.
Taking back to his owner, Eleri was Ice, Phreelancer Chill Phactor, bred by Lene Newman who was in Herning, Denmark attending the EDS, along with a few other UK exhibitors. Ice is sired by Multi Ch One Extraordinary Blue di Cambiano out of Phreelancer Phaith Hill and adds this award to his collection. Thanks Eleri for letting me know.

Now to the ladies with Grenville Francis (Peblu) judging. Grenville last judged at British in 2022 where he judged the dogs
Today, 38 ladies, with 10 marked absent. Jopium Loves To Shine, full sister to the MPD winner won MPB. Starlenga All For It, owned by Wilma Brodie won Puppy and Maiden. Tremaro A Kind of Magic for Margaret and Rob Shipp won Junior. Morag & Jim McCarte won Yearling with Roughrigg One of A Kind.
Crawford Taylor and Elshajo As If by Magic at Bryony won Novice, followed by Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Magic Lady who won Graduate. Tony & Daphne Iley won PG with their blue, Call Me Dreamer In Blue for Ileyda JW. Melissa and her Gataj Good Time Girl won Limit and then Melissa changed leads to Ch Paradise Girl du Clos de Sea-Wind for Gataj to win Open. Veteran went to Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm for Jo Hodges.
In the challenge, again the CC went to the winner of Veteran, giving her a 9th CC. Sired by Ch Jopium Stole My Heart at Lingwell out of Riverside Song Venice Queen at Jopium she was born in April 2015.
The RCC went to Melissa and Gataj Good Time Girl and BPB to Wilma Brodie and Starlenga All For It.
At the end of the day, BIS and BVIS was Jo Hodges, repeating her success here back in 2012. Reserve BIS to Melissa. BOSIS went to the newly crowned Ch Karafaye Scotch Blend at Thistlewing. BPIS also went to Jo and her dog puppy.

Now to SKC, where Barry Croft was making his choices from an original entry of 69, although 16 are marked absent by Higham.
Dog CC, his first went to the winner of Open, Brian and Odile with Beldones Toucher du Bois. Bred here in the UK, he is sired by Honky Tonk Man of River Tweed out of Beldones Enable and born May 2020. The RCC came from Puppy in the form of Melissa Lockyer, with Gataj Turn Back Time. who had a very long wait for the puppy group, but it was well worth while as they annexed PG2 from Judge Gillian Marley – well done. Lets us hope it’s a turning point for the breed. He is sired by Perfect Timing  du Clos de Sea-Wind for Gataj out of Nasty Girl du Clos de Sea-wind at Gataj, born in May 2022 and is a repeat mating of her other winners, G. Good Time Girl and G Out of The Woods. BVD went to Stacy Steven and Cariadhaf Crazy Dream (Kelmbri Gran Torino ex Jopium Love is All Around Emryks, bred by Margaret Harrison)
Chloe Shorten won Sp Beginners Dog with Thistlewings Andromeda whilst Cath Proctor won GCD with Wilmaranna Out of the Blue for Cathbri. I saw videos of the groups but did not see our breed represented in either other than Melisa and Odile.
Other class winners were: Noel & Christine Collins with Triburle Bluebolero (Junior); Wilma Brodie and Shanaburn Country Road (Yearling); Demelewis Gang Leader won PGD for Debbie Garside and Melissa won Limit with Gataj Out of The Woods
In bitches, a great result for “local boy” Robin Blaikie, who returned to his homeland to bring back the CC with Ch Kourika Kover Girl. She is sired by his Ch Willowdene Double or Quits at Wassail out of Geosamka Simply Has To Be Kourika. RCC was Beldones Looks Like Fun, (who is the dam of Beldones Enable) she is sired by Ch Beldones Black Illusion out of Ch Beldones Fit For Fun and was born July 2017. BPB was between Louise Walker and Chantique Tooth Fairy for Starlenga who won MP and Melissa who won Puppy with Gataj Someone You Loved. Veteran Bitch and BVIB went to the winner from the previous day, Ch Jopium Love Heart JW ShCm. Uffspring Uniquely Mayd for Whitecraigs won SBB and Sophie Wray-Ramsden took Good Citizen with Takhisis Lady of Illusions. Other class winners were: Ingledene Powdered Sugar (Junior); Takhisis Summer Solstice at Rannaleroch (Yearling); Brenda Welsh won PG with Thistlewing Magic Lady and another class win for Melissa with Gataj Good Time Girl who won Limit.
