Breed Notes
5th May 2023
Firstly some sad news concerning Roy Foxcroft who passed away recently. I do not have any details but many will recall Roy and his small kennel of collies under his Edditch affix. One I do recall is Lucky Lady of Edditch who was the dam of Edditch Taullacht Cailtn and another Edditch Foxy Lady, sired by Ch Aberthorne Arrester
Marianne Benton writes to let us know that her Keira, Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell gained her final points for her Veteran Warrant at Norfolk & Norwich Open Show from Judge Michael Keeley and she now joins a very select band of collies who add VW following their names, well done
It was a very long day spent indoors at Malvern for the WELKS Ch show, where our breeds, with No CC’s were 3rd in the ring about 3pm. This scheduling will change in 2024 as a CC allocation has been granted for Roughs but today were behind both Standard & Miniature Poodles, the latter judged also by Howard Ogden. .
Howard Ogden last judged our breed at Ch show level (without CC’s) at Southern Counties in 2015.
His entry of 39 had very few absentees and was finally headed by Brian & Odile with Beldones Rocket Man who won Open. Reserve BD was another nice win for Christine & Noel Collins with Triburle Bluebolero who won from Junior.
Other class winners, in dogs were Barrenclough Diamond Days JW (Veteran); Kerlekona Hearts of Gold (Puppy); Phreelancer Phederal Agent at Mejola (Yearling) and Fridens Extra Chance for Salsina (Post Grad)
Heading the ladies was Tremaro Kind of Magic for Rob & Margaret Shipp, many thanks for letting me know, followed home by Mejola Main Event and Jo White. Remaining class winners were: Monsolana Madam Blues over Barrenclough ShCm, VW from Russia winning Veteran ; Jackinstar Sandra Dee (Puppy); Triburle Return The Passion to Salsina (Post Grad) and Lillyway Lemonade Blush who won Open.
BOB went to Beldones Rocket Man, who did make it into the Group judged by Gary Gray and although put up a good show, did not feature.
Perhaps due to the lateness of judging, I cannot confirm if either the Veteran winner (Monsolana Madam Blues over Barrenclough) or the Best Puppy (Jackinstar Sandra Dee) actually made their groups or not. These were judged by Jill Gill-Davis and Tom Johnston.
However, there is some good news, Serenlas Chloe, handled by Stefani Flower and owned and bred by daughter Karla did win 2nd in Junior Stakes under Vanessa Cox bringing home some additional cash – well done and this adds to to her recent win of BOB at Pontypool & District Open show and G4 under Toni Jackson
