3rd November 2023
Midland Counties at Stafford is a show I like to attend but not so this year. With a reasonable entry fee and free parking, it is no wonder this show regularly receives good entries and this year was no exception. Maxine Mellish (Demelewis) was judging and there was a total of 77 made up of 35 males and 42 females. At the end of the day, we now have another new name to add to our list of winners and a 2nd CC win for another.
Judging started at 9am in the Main Hall, with just one entrant in MPD, this being Julie Edwards and her new sable boy, Elshajo Perfect Valentines making his show debut. PD followed with 6 entered and taking this was the first win of the day for Natalia and Bo Skalin with Skabona Sky Has No Limits. Junior went to Cathy Cooper and her Kelekona Hearts of Gold who also won Yearling and the last points for his JW. Phreelancer Phinal Salute for Charlotte and Denisa Vescan took PG, (he is a brother to the BCC winner) whilst Gwen Beadon won Limit with Marvalan Spirit of Rock(Imp POL) and Open went to Int/Ch DK/Nor & Italian Champion, Skabona Mix’n’Match. Veteran, was won by Jo White and her Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune and in Spl Beginners, Takhisis Lysander and Linda Chaplin won.
In the challenge, a 1st UK CC went to the sable of Natalia and Bo. He is sired by Rejejs Oriental Milk Chocolate and out of Skabona Secret Game, a daughter of Chelhaven Playing Around Chelborn and was born in January 2019
Taking another RCC to add to his tally was Marvalan Spirit of Rock and Gwen. BPD also went to Natalia and Bo.
MPB also had just the one entry, this was Lorraine Quince and her Oakley Ice Queen for Karafaye( Imp Che). Puppy bitch was a nice win for Ladnar Inaheartbeat, owned by Dr J Mosseveld and will be going to her new home in Australia next year and shown by Gwen (as she is a Hektor daughter) in the breed and by Cheryl Turner in the Puppy stakes. Gill Whitaker won Junior with Siluto Blueberry Mist. Serenlas Chloe and Karla Flower won Yearling but handled by mum, Stefani Flower. PG went to Drofgnal Dazzling Desire for Lenosann for Dee and Sam Vogan; Lene Newman took Limit with Phreelancer Phormal Dress and Gwen won Open with Ch Saganan Blue Diamond. Gina Stillwell brought out Bellawave Caught In A Dream to win Veteran and Cathy Cooper won Spl Beginners with Lilith Nar Sule of Kelekona who is the dam of Cathy’s dog, K. Hearts of Gold.
The BCC, her 2nd went to Lena and Phreelancer Phormal Dress, and she is sired by Ch Corydon The Ringleader out of Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill and adds this to her CC won recently at Darlington from Steve Hall. The RBCC was another win for Serenlas Chloe, who if you remember won her 1st CC at Bournemouth from Marianne Benton. She is bred by Karla Flower, sired by Ch Brooklynson El Dorado out of Serenlas Yves Saint Laurent and was born 30th March 2022. BPB was Ladnar Inaheartbeat.
BOB and sent forward for Zena Thorne-Andrews was the sable dog but although he put up a good performance, she did not include him in her short-list. There were no Puppy or Veteran Groups to stay for but BPIB went to Ladnar Inaheartbeat and BVIB fell to Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune and Jo White. Cathy Cooper took Best Special Beginners and went forward to the group, which was pre-judged but did not feature.
Some news of the Stakes classes, and congratulations to Jake Walsh who handled his and Michelle’s new ASD baby girl, Rosschell Made You Look, at possibly only her 2nd Ch show to take BPIB and then won the Eukanuba Pup of The Year stakes overall for the day and has to return for the final. Natalia continued her winning day as she took Vanessa Cronk’s Skabona If I Saw You In Heaven for Chelborn in the AV Puppy Stakes under Irene McManus and took VHC and came away with some Eukanuba Product Vouchers.
News of another JW win, this time for Wilma Brodie and her Starlenga All For It for Shanaburn as she is now, according to Wilma, rather short on coat.
Finally, an apology to Paige, grand-daughter of Paul Ross, who often handles for him at many of the shows and does very well. It would appear that not only was the show catalogue incorrectly marked and the information I was given was also not correct, as I inferred that she had an incorrect ring number on in the challenge but have been told by Paul that she did indeed have the correct ring number for her exhibit. Sorry for any issues this may have caused and we hope to see you in the ring again soon.
