9th August 2024
For those of you who follow the Our Dogs “TOP LEADERS” Competition, Our Dogs have just published the “halfway leaders up to June 23rd and in Collie Rough the following are all listed: Top Brood Bitch -Lene Newman and Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill; There is no outright leader at this stage for Top Collie, no doubt this will be soon resolved but with already 15 new champions a result will happen before year end!; Although in the Top Puppy listing, the results have been amended and we currently have 2 pups, Aaronwell Able Mabel and Mejola Top Gun on equal points and not as published. Top Breeder is currently Lene Newman and her Phreelancer collies; Brian & Odile lead the Top Stud Dog award with Ch Beldones Black Illusion, I could not locate a Veteran award but as each Ch show differs in its classification, (mixed or no classes) a clear leader is not available.
As we all are aware, results will change and in the Review of 2024 the results as listed by OD may or may not be similar as a different calculation of points is included in our Breed Review and also includes not only CC wins, Ch titles gained but RCC winners too. Top Puppy competition is in the hands of British Collie as they run and organise the Ladypark Trophy, again with a different points system, if any of you are in doubt about this, please contact Jo Hodges or Duna Jones for more information.
Another show and 2 New Champions joined the Upper House and 2 new names added to our current list of major winners along with some good places in Stakes classes! All this from a judge on her 2nd appointment for the breed.
For those who braved not just the early morning commuter traffic but also suffered the Friday night motorway issues, all to get o Paignton where Jenny Miller (Feorlig) was on her 2nd appointment for the breed. Jenny judged previously at EACA where she judged the males only and today she had received an entry of 55 with fewer male absentees than bitches but amounting to approx. just 8 in total.
Having won his 2nd CC at Leeds, we now have a new Champion in Gataj Turn Back Time who gained his crown here at a fairly local show for owner Melissa Lockyer and he won Limit. I did a quick check on records and think he is now our 12th new champion for the year and another to add for the Gataj kennel. Taking the RDCC from Post Grad was John Blake’s Corydon Christopher, a sable, handled by daughter Miranda. He is by Ch Corydon The Ringleader out of the dual CC winning Corydon Clarissa and to make the day better, he also annexed a 2nd place in the Post Grad Stakes class from Tim Ball. Other class winners here were: Julia Bolt and her new baby, Gataj Bonnie Eddie who stood alone in MPD; Sue Harris and Geosamka Loves To Love won PD; Hanvale Ralph Lauren who had been BIS from Jenny a few weeks back, took both Junior and Yearling for Steve Toogood; Robin Blaikie won Open with Ch Kourika You’ll Do For Me and the effervescent Pedro won Veteran for Marianne.
Currently heading the OD Top Breeder competition is Lene Newman and today, added another winner for this listing. This is now Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress, a sable sired by Ch Corydon The Ringleader out of Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill.
Her 1st CC came last year at Darlington from Steve Hall, her 2nd at Midland Counties from Maxine Mellish along with a few RCC wins along the way and she is now our 13th Ch and her dam, Ch. Phreelancer Phaith Hill is also in the running for Brood Bitch as she is already the dam of 2 new champions and a CC winner this year, along with taking BOB at Crufts.
Di Ware, who lives just 10 minutes from the show ground brought her imported tri lady to the show, won PG and the RBCC with Millubie Essence of Magic at Wassail. Born in Romania, she is sired by Millubie Countdown out of Millubie Game of Magic, both of whom have some UK breeding behind them. Other class winners included Melissa and Jo Hodges, who were both alone in their classes with Vichy Vuitton of Dirty Booties at Gataj (MPB) and Unusual Beauty Des Coquettes De Jon Juan at Jopium (Yearling); Stefani Flower and Serenlas Pumpkin Spice who won Limit and Rob & Margaret Shipp took Veteran with their Ch Gillyflower Della Buca Delle Fata.
In the final results, BOB went to Melissa and her new Ch boy, Kipps, and went into the group under Patsy Hollings, BPIB went to Sue Harris and Geosamka Loves to Love and she too stayed for her puppy group judged by Becky Johnson. Marianne and Pedro took BVIB, whilst Annette Mills won Special Beginners with her Samhaven Super Natural at Willowscombe and finally in the Junior Stakes, Ron James placed Mejola Top Gun to VHC in a large entry with prize money
Now some were recovering from a lone journey to Paignton, others continued their show trips and set off for the Annual relaxed garden party Ch Show at Littleport for East Anglian CA and very many thanks to Show Secretary, Jo White and Secretary Miranda, I think I have all the results, so here goes and apologies to those I have missed out!
The judges for this event were Tracy Jackson (Sassari) for the males and a first UK appointment for the very well-known John Walsh Jnr, who has both Roughs and Danes under the Joshren & Yandamar kennel in Eire and is very well known and respected around the world.
Smooths are also scheduled here and allocated to John, whilst Simon Luxmore (Hushwing/Zima) had the well filled SAC classes an d the Special Stakes Class judged by Tracey Jackson with Miranda Blake officiating for BIS. There were 84 roughs, 18 Smooths, 28 entries for SAC and 12 in the Stakes.
Taking his 4th CC from Open was the Ch blue merle, Ch Alfsden He Lives In You, handled by Jan Milligan and jointly owned with Nigel Marley and his details were published recently, as were those of the RDCC, Ch Kourika You’ll Do For Me, recent CC & Crufts winner. Veteran dog was the first class and this was won by Ann French and Samhaven Name That Tune at Breckamore. John Tipper handled Tiganlea Turned to Black to win MP, Melissa took Puppy with Gataj Lewis Capaldi whilst Mejola Top Gun and Jo White took Junior. Novice was a nice win for Siluto Blue Wizzard at Amberwish for Yvonne Ross. Tudorlyn Midnight Magic and Margaret Brand won PG whilst Ladnar Dreamchaser won Mid Limit for Sue, Ann & Valerie. Tina May won Limit with her sable Camanna Careerchanging For Maqueeba. Special Beginners Dog was won by Atirakin Snow Slides On High for the Melonie family.
EACA are probably the only club who schedule and receive good entries for their Champions Class, and Ch dog was won by Ch Kourika You’ll Do For Me and Robin Blaikie and Champion Bitch class was won by Vanessa Cronk and Ch Chelborn Wish List.
Marianne Benton won Veteran with Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle who also carries her Veteran Warrant; Melissa won Puppy with Gataj Exotic Girl and as there were no MP entries, was automatically BPB. Simon Walder showed Hanvale Patsy Stone to win Junior; Novice went to Didek Moon River Through Fivejays for the Marion Radford-House and Mrs Durrant partnership, then quickly changed leads to win Yearling with Kiss Me Kate di Cambiano at Fivejays. Mary Beardsworth had the pleasure of winning PG with her and Denis blue merle, Maysinder Sapphire Reign. Vanessa won ML with Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish and Limit went to the breed’s latest Champion, Phreelancer Phormal Dress and Lene Newman. Valerie Geddes made the journey from Welshpool with now Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda and to complete the class winners list, Alex Mills stood alone in Special Beginners with her Hanvale Edina Monsoon at Lemivee.
Taking a very quick 4th CC was Saga, Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress and from the Limit class, second was called in and this was Stefani Flower with Serenlas Pumpkin Spice and she took the RBCC back to from Llandysul, Dyfed.
Although she stood 2nd in the Ch class, mother of the CC winner, Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill and Lene was awarded BVB and subsequently BVIB.
In the challenge for BOB, both judges agreed that Lene and her sable should be BOB, BPIB was Melissa and Gataj Lewis Capaldi but lost out for BPIS to the smooth, as did the BVIB rough. The blue boy took BOSIS and making the weekend rather special for Lene and her kennel, BIS went to Saga.
Simon Luxmore had a good SAC entry and found his winners in the smooth Shulune Imperial Inkheart with Casatentola for owner Georgina Howard and he also went BPIS. Oakley Ice Queen and Lorraine Quince won the AV PG class and also took the Stakes class from Tracey Jackson., along with prize money. Simons choice for the SAC Open was Lene and Saga.
