14th June 2024

Another hectic few days for some and some memorable shows for others. When we enter, we often think what the day will bring and, in our breed, it is not often that a virtual clean sweep of awards happens, so here goes.
Three Counties had Roz Macdonald judging, she had received an entry of 34 males and 32 females. Roz, who has the Rossavon affix last judged dogs in 2022 at L&P, prior to that, dogs at EACA in 2019 and last judged bitches when she officiated over both sexes at Leeds in 2017 and this is only the 3rd time, she has actually judged the ladies.
With 7 boys marked absent by Fosse, in the challenge were: Di Collino with her MP Imaginist A Griffin’s Mark; Jo White and Maverick took PD; Sophie and Takhisis Daggers at Dawn (Monty) won Junior; Luminous Moon Over Lenosann won Graduate for Dee Vogan and Samantha; John Newton appeared after quite a long absence from the Ch show scene to take Limit with Fiorcara Brave Explorer owned by John and Sandra. Alone in Open was Aqualita It’s a Miracle for Derek, Hazel and Isobel Allsopp, and finally Jo White and Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune won Veteran.
The CC, his first and another for the Lenosann kennel who have in the past had a few winners including a Ch blue bitch, Ch Lenosann Heavenly Note, went to the Graduate winner Luminous Moon Over Lenosann, sired by the breed’s latest blue merle Champion, Phreelancer Chill Phactor for Elshajo, out of Lenosann Mystic Blaze at Drofgnal (Corydon Riffson ex Lenosann Angelic Dream) and born in August 2021
Taking the RDCC was the winner of Veteran, Jo White and her veteran, Ch Mejola Fate and Fortune (Ch Corydon Once In A Blue Moon ex Corydon Femme Fatale for Mejola). Best PD was Mejola Top Gun also owned by Jo.
Now to the ladies and in the challenge were: Stefani Flower and Serenlas Truly Scrumptious who won MP. The only entrant in PB was Janine Hanson with the l/s to Top Gun, Mejola The Special One with Jards. Vanessa continued her Junior wins with Erica, Skabona If You Saw Me In Heaven for Chelborn and Denis Beardsworth took a lovely Graduate class win with Maysinder Sapphire Reign. Vanessa then returned to win PG with Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish. Lene Newman brought out her sable, Phreelancer Phormal Dress to win Limit and Jo won Open with Mejola Main Event JW whilst Marianne Benton and Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle won Veteran.
The CC, her 2nd went to Jo and Mejola Main Event JW, who is sired by Corydon Winning Factor out of Mejola Main Attraction, born in June 2021 and she is a sable. RBCC was Lene and her dual CC winning Phreelancer Phormal Dress (Corydon The Ringmaster ex Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill).
Not only did Jo win BOB with her sable bitch, she took BPIB with Mejola Top Gun and BVIB with her Ch Mejola Fate or Fortune – what a day for her BUT, on checking with the Secretary, she was advised that all 3 groups would be judged simultaneously in different rings! Panic. Thanks, must be made to both Gwen Beadon and Shelley Skinner who stayed on to help Jo make all 3 groups. Her BOB was shortlisted from judge Mick Taylor (Bruernish) and although present, neither of her other 2 qualifiers were! So, one very happy Jo made her way home, slightly later than expected.
2 days later, many assembled at the Doberman Training Ground venue for the annual London Collie Ch show, for some reason, although dry, the lovely warm weather many have come to expect at this show did not materialise until very much later in the day and many were to be seen snuggled under blankets to watch the judging.
Thanks to show secretary, Julie Sewell, I have been sent down a fully marked catalogue for the day where there were CC’s on offer for both Roughs and Smooths and a BIS judge of Dareen Clarke. With a good overall entry of 91 roughs unfortunately there were more absent than normal, mainly those entered by Club officials or committee members, in fact I added up over 20 entries were absent which is most unusual for this well-loved show.
The judges were Doreen Clarke (Lynway) for dogs, Sue Randall (Ladnar) for bitches and Geoff Duffield for the smooths who where first in the ring and the judging of male roughs did not start until he had completed his assignment which was about 1pm. Meanwhile Sue Randall started on her entry. Sue last judged at CC Wales (males) last year and prior to that at EACA also males and this was her 2nd time for bitches. Some interesting classes gave us the following ladies all in the challenge, but the actual BCC was not awarded until the completion of the Dog judging so quite a wait for all the following class winners.
Gataj Exotic Girl with Melissa won MP; Hanvale Patsy Stone took Puppy for Hannah and Simon; Vanessa and Erica won yet another Junior class; Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish took Graduate; Post Grad went to Chantel and Andre with their imported Italian blue, Torrino Renesmee for Chantique; All the Mid Limit girls were absent. Starlenga Nina Simone, now in the ownership of Jayne Llewellyn won Limit; Jo White won Open with Mejola Main Event and Ch Phreelancer Phaith Hill won Veteran for Lene Newman. With some long time to wait until the CC was awarded, many settled down to watch the dog entry judged by Doreen Clarke, with Gee McEntee stewarding.
John & Caroline Tipper won MP with a new tri boy, Tiganlea Turned To Black, Puppy went to Charlene & Louis with Paulara Blaze of Glory, who, if memory serves me well annexed his Junior Champion French Title at the recent ENE. Jo Brooker and Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian won Junior, although he is still a puppy until 15th June. Novice went to Ann Page and her Lynmead Prince Charming and Vanessa’s Chelborn Gambling List won Graduate. Sue Howard and Ladnar Dreamchaser were alone in PG and he is also owned by Val Newton & Ann Patterson; Mid Limit went to Noel & Christine with their blue, Triburle Bluebolero and Open was won by Charlene & Luis with Chantique Magical Mystery with Ann Page’s Lynmead Amalie Let Me Go winning Veteran.
So now with all judging for Roughs completed, the CC’s could be awarded and taking his 3rd CC and title was non-other than Chantique Magical Mystery. His foirst came from Merv Casling at Crufts in 2022 followed by a quick 2nd from Karen Gilliland at WKC the same year. A Sable sired by Magical Moon of Lowlands Green Valley for Chantique out of Chantique Bewitched and it must have been a great pleasure for his breeders, Chantal and Andre to be present to see this win and gives both Charlene & Luis their 2nd Ch in the breed as their Paulara No Where Man attained his title last year. I also understand that Sonny as he is known at home at Paulara actually attended his first Ch show here at the same venue.
The RDCC went to a rather emotional Jo Brooker and her junior winner, who is still a puppy, Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian and he was also declared BPD. He too is sired by Magical Moon out of Nelinka de Remember our Love for Starlenga. Ann page won BVD with Marianne handling as Ann also had another in the challenge
For the ladies, the icing on the cake was when Sue Randall awarded Jo White her 3rd CC with Mejola Main Event JW, known at home as Gypsy, her first big win came from Miranda Blake at Crufts with the RBCC, followed by quite a few class wins until her 1st CC came at CCW from Lene Newman and her other as reported above.
BOB Rough went to Gypsy, and after deliberation, the referee, Darren Clarke was required to award RBOB. With all other awards agreed upon, BIS and ending Jo White’s rather spectacular couple of days, Gypsy, now Ch Mejola Main Event was awarded BIS by Darren, all other awards went to the smooth collies apart from BPIS which went back to Corisian and Jo Brooker and family
Looking through these recent show results, congratulations to the Corydon kennel of John & Miranda Blake, although not attending their stock have done exceptionally well in siring CC winners, namely Corydon Ringmaster, Winning Factor Ringleader, Once In A Blue Moon, or behind dams of top winners.
