8th November 2024

Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland had a BIS winner in a Rough Collie back in 2001, then sadly lost CC’s the following year  in 2002  and entries have fallen since. Back to 2001, BIS went to Anne Hollywood and her sable, Ch Amalie Sweet Surprise, who took the CC and BOB from the late great Terry Thorn and BIS from the late Jo Kirk (Cregagh). The other winners that day were Ch Brooklynson Headliner  with the RCC’s going to Ch Antoc Crystal Rainbow and Vonarkle Viceroy all from an entry of 166.
The entry of the 2024 show was somewhat smaller, with just 13 males and 17 females entered for Avril Caplan (Whitecraigs), however, Avril withdrew and was unable to officiate. The replacement for this entry went to Tom Mather (Barklots) who was also officiating here.
Tom found his winners in Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches with Jim & Morag McCarte who won the mixed Puppy Class; Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Gold Mist won the mixed Junior class. PGD was Kelly Crawford and her Stregato Foolish Guy; Jo Hodges won Open with Jopium Love on The Rocks and Lynda Watt won Veteran with Culbrae Red Again.
BD was Culbrae Red Again, with Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches in reserve and BPD and Lynda won Veteran.
Brenda Welsh won PG with Thistlewing Magic Lady and Avonfair A Million Lovesong JW won Open for the Mitchell & Jordan partnership. BB was Brenda with Magic Lady and Michelle Mitchell handled her Open winner to take RBB.
The final result overall went to Lynda with Culbrae Red Again and put up a good show in the group under Gary Gray but did not feature, Jim & Morag also stayed for the Puppy group under Dr Ron James and after a long day they did not feature either. I do not know if Lynda also managed to get into the Veteran Group also judged by Dr James. A quick look through the stakes classes and I did not see any rough collie winners but may well have missed them. If you were placed, do let me know.
Some exhibitors then attended the Open show of Lancashire & Cheshire CC held the following day, with an entry of 27 roughs and 12 smooths. The nominated judge was Cate Hollinshead (Starlynn) for roughs, a Ms L Williams for the Smooths and Fay Hutchings (Collidach) for BIS.
Best Dog from the 6 present, was Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian for the Brooker family, RBD was the Open winner, Chantal & Andre Scott with their tri boy, Sherlock Holmes from Moon River at Chantique. BPD on his first outing was Essanjay Ring of Fire. There were no Veteran males present. For the ladies, I counted a dozen present and BB was Aaronwell Able Mabel for John Congdon & Sue Hawkins, with RBB going to Jo Hodges and her Unusual Beauty Des Coquettes De Don Juan at Jopium with Essanjay Heartbreaker (l/s to dog) taking BPB and BVB was the ever young Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian JW
BOB Rough went to Aaronwell Able Mabel. RBOB to Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian. BPIB to Essanjay Heartbreaker and BVIB to Telforth Sweet Dreams for Corisian.
In the final for BIS, judged by Fay, BIS went to the Smooth Coldelee Eternal Sunshine, RBIS to Abel Mabel, BPIS to Essanjay Heartbreaker and BVIS to the Smooth, Kockzdan Serenity.
