With the show season in full swing, those of you who are keeping records of your show wins, please note the following as received from British Collie Club (Jo Hodges) concerning the qualifications and points for this year, for Rough Collies, hoping to gain places (or even win) the most prestigious Ladypark Puppy Trophy and BCC hope this clears up any confusion regarding how points are allocated

Just to clarify how points are calculated for the British Collie Club Ladypark award

Points are only awarded at Championship Shows were CC’s are on offer

1 x first place =               5 points
1x second place =           3 points
1 x third place =              1 point
Best Puppy in Breed =     2 points
Res CC =                        8 points
CC =                               10 points

Only points won from wins in MINOR PUPPY AND PUPPY CLASSES WILL BE AWARDED. Points are not counted for wins in Junior, Maiden or Novice classes etc . Additional points are not awarded for group placings
For example: If a dog is placed in both minor puppy and puppy classes then points are only awarded for the highest-class win, i.e.  If you win 1st in MP and 2nd in puppy there would only be a total of 5 points awarded.

Talking of British CC, Norfolk & Norwich Premier Show is one of the 2 shows supported by BCC  (which all of our Breed Clubs are expected to do) , Thanks to Mr Wensley, I have a copy of the entry which amounted to 8 with 1 absent, over 4 classes and I have some great news for the breed, as, following on from the recent L&P Open shows, Di Collino had entered her puppy, Audrey, officially known as Imaginist My Fair Lady at Norfolk & Norwich Premier Open Show but was unable to attend. A few friends rallied around and  Sophie Wray-Ramsden took her to the show, but she was handled in the breed by Michael Wensley to gain BPIB, wife Rebecca took her into the group to win PPG1 and finally re-united with Sophie, she guided her to the ultimate, BPIS All Breeds. Di sends her grateful thanks to all involved and also to the respective judges: Lynda Nicholas (Nickarlyn) for the Breed; Louise Paterson (Eriksfyord) Group and finally Marion Hodgson (Ddalrus) for BPIS.

Now a polite reminder for those of you who have  asked concerning the With-holding of awards (again) as recently this issue has raised its head. From not only the F1 Show Regulations but also written in the RKC Guide of Best Practice for Judges (a booklet both judges and some exhibitors could do with reading)

"An award may be withheld if, in the opinion of the judge, there is a lack of sufficient merit The judge must mark on the judging slips that the award has been withheld. The judge is not entitled to withhold an award for any other reason When a judge withholds an award for third place, the subsequent awards in that class must be withheld.  (F(1) 20 (o). 

This for lack of sufficient merit and NOTHING to do with a possible KCSB allocation or qualification for Crufts. These awards are made at the discretion of the RKC.

Another area which often causes concern is for those exhibitors who miss their class and those exhibitors who sometimes do not appear in the classes they have entered, especially those who intentionally withdraw without any official approval on the basis that they did not win/place as they had expected! May I clarify both of these situations as these often cause much bad feeling amongst your fellow exhibitors, after all you did sign the RKC Declaration Form when making your entry and you and your exhibit could lose any previous wins you may have gained.

Although the rules have been relaxed but they are still there for all to abide by!
It would appear that some, having had sight of the Show Catalogue on the day are trying to take advantage over others

Should you genuinely miss your class and I mean genuine, not standing at ringside watching your class, and then enter the next class!  You could be entitled to remain as long as a reasonable explanation is submitted. Should you win, and enter the challenge BUT please do remember that when this is reported to the RKC by means of the Show Report or recorded in the Show Incident Report which is submitted by each Secretary following the show.

That is why we have Ring Stewards to mark off every entrant in each class!

Unless your exhibit is genuinely ill or has suddenly gone lame, regardless, you are still expected to stand in the ring and accept the decision of the judge, otherwise it looks like and is poor sportsmanship. If we could all win at every show we attended what would be the point?
You are expected to advise the Ring Steward of the position and request permission to WITHDRAW from the class. If granted, you may not exhibit in any further classes at the show
Please abide by the rules, unless you feel as some do, they do not apply to YOU.

City of Birmingham was held Thursday, not a great day for travelling but our Judge, Kevin Young (Sunkap) had received a good entry of 75 but with an early start, and fairly early finish we had some good Breed Results to record.
The day started with SBD and this was won by Jackie Dix and her Barrenclough Diamond Skies, veteran followed with Jo Williams (ex White) winning with her blue Ch boy, Mejola Fate and Fortune ShCEx. MP followed and Sheila Telford and her Beldones Diamond Touch for Glenbowdene won this. John & Caroline Tipper took PD with Tiganlea Turned to Black, Jo Williams returned to the ring to win Junior with Maverick, Mejola Top Gun and a spritely John Blake (now 88 years young) showed a few, how both he and his sable boy, Corydon Christopher could move to win Yearling. Graduate went to Sophie Gelder and Libanel Erebus Eternal Love but a few places in this class were with-held. Jackie Dix returned to win PG with Barrenclough Diamond Skies. Samantha & Denise Vogan took Limit with Luminous Moon over Lenosann and Miranda won Open with her blue, Corydon Pol Rodger. There were no entries for Good Citizen.
The CC, his 2nd went to Mejola Top Gun and Jo, RDCC to Denise & Samantha with their blue,  Luminous Moon over Lenosann who also has a 1st CC, won this year from Roz MacDonald at the recent Three Counties show but to remind you, he is sired by Ch Phreelancer Chill Phactor at Elshajo out of a Corydon Riffson daughter, Lenosann Mystic Blaze at Drofgnal and he was born in August 2021. Maverick is sired by Corydon The Ringmaster out of Mejola Special Reserve and won his 1st CC at Bath.
Dr Lynda Boyle had a great day, thank you for letting me know, as she won Sp Beginners Bitch with her Timeless Destiny Star Actis Over Barrenclough. Denise & Samantha won Veteran with Lenosann Black Cherry and Brenda Welsh took PB with Thistlewing Gold Mist. There were no MP entered. Simon Walder won Junior with Hanvale Patsy Stone and Lorraine Quince won Yearling with Oakley Ice Queen for Karafaye. Lynda Boyle returned to the ring to take Graduate as a “seen lady” and Tiganlea Tuesday’s Child won PG for Tracy Hoffman, Lene Newman won Limit with Phreelancer Phormal Dress and Valerie Geddes took Open with Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda. Hannah Lyall had the thrill of winning Good Citizen bitch with Santaloly’s Sky Amidales.
Val won the CC with Wanda, I think this is her 5th CC along with BOB. Taking back home to Phreelancer was Ch Phreelancer Phormal Dress who took the RBCC.
BPIB was declared as Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Gold Mist and she stayed for the Puppy Group, judged by Tan Nagreecha but this was won by Trevor & Birgit Hayward with their Smooth Collie. However, we did have some good results in other groups as Lynda Boyle annexed G3 in the Sp Beginners Group from our own Derek Smith, Jo Williams and Maverick, took Junior G4 also from Derek. Not to be outdone, Miranda took John’s Corydon Christopher into the Yearling Stakes and won £25 from Albert Wight and Henry Leese won 4th in the YKC stakes with Essanjay Fields of Gold for Firesaga who also took 3rd in PGD.
WECS held their Open Show at East Huntspill, last Sunday and thanks to Secretary, Margaret Scamp, a copy of the results has arrived. WECS had invited Janine Hanson (Jards) to officiate over the Roughs and this society also schedules Smooths, judged by Debra Bell. Bob Gay (Yaganne) was appointed as Referee.
The entry for Roughs was just 27, made up from 13 males and 14 females. From these, 1 dog and 4 bitches were absent and I also noted at least 3 NFC entries too.
Stefani Flower had yet another excellent day as she won BD with her import, Andromeda Dreamcatcher  at Serenlas (Imp Slv) known at home as Ash. Taking RBD was the tricolour of Rachel Tilley, Ingledene Dark Moon Risin over Detillio and BPD was a nice win for another local exhibitor, Julia Bolt and Gataj Bonnie Eddie  Not content with winning BD, Stefani then won BB with her Serenlas Pumpkin Spice JW and BPB with Serenlas Truly Scrumptious, with Margaret Scamp taking RBB with Stregato The Maleficent at Marketdene who was also awarded BVIB. BOB obviously went to Stefani with Pumpkin Spice, with her dog RBOB and although declared BPB, she had to give way to Gataj Bonnie Eddie for BPIB and finally BIS went to Stefani and her bitch with the smooths taking all other awards.
