25th April 2025
Some good news for our breed starts off this set of notes, as we have a Best Puppy In Show, all breeds with Corydon Cristal Vision (Corydon The Baron ex Corydon Agatha Cristal). All this happened on Good Friday at Edwinstowe & District Premier Open Show where breed judge was Simon Luxmore-Bell, Group Marianne Benton and BIS was Jennifer Mallard. Just to add some icing to the day, Ninja (Corydon The Baronet, her brother) won Junior and the AV Pastoral Puppy class and not be outdone, Grandfather, Corydon The Grandmaster took Open and BOB. Dorothy, as she is known at home won the most enormous rosette which now sits pride of place home at Corydon.
The following day, our Breed was scheduled, without CC’s at Builth for the Working & Pastoral Breeds Wales show. We used to have CC status here for many many years and often annexed some good “IN-SHOW” wins, including RBIS etc. Today the entry was, on paper, just 5 males and 10 ladies for Lucy Mottram, who is an approved CC awarding judge over 4 breeds and is currently working through the JEP at Level 2.
However, on the day, just 2 boys were present, Christine Collins and Triburle The Joker and Vanessa Cronk with Chelborn’s Gambling List, both of whom had won separate classes, PG and Open respectively. Best dog went to Vanessa with Christine in Reserve. The ladies were slightly better represented with 7 girls on the ground. BB was awarded to Denis and Mary Beardsworth with Maysinder Sapphire Reign alone in PG, RBB and BPB and BPIB to Michelle Davis and Jake Walsh’s blue puppy, Wicani Bellissima Rosschell giving both Michelle and Jake a great day as they also annexed the BCC in their other breed ASD when Rosschell Maid Out of the Blu won her 1st CC beating their other exhibit Rosschell Maid You Look who had won the Open Class. BOB fell to Vanessa who sent her boy, along with handler Isaac Priddy into the group judged by Geoff Duffield and he made the short list
Next day, classes were scheduled for Roughs at the Smooth Collie Club’s joint 2 Open shows at Bagington. The judge for Roughs at Show 1 was Caroline Friend-Rees, who is from Bridgend and is a Level 4 (CC awarding) judge over numerous breeds and approved for the Pastoral Group but does not appear on KC FAJ for Roughs yet.
The entry was issued at 29 roughs but on the day, just 11 males and 12 ladies were attending. BD went to Gwen Beadon and Ch Marvalan Spirit of Rock with RBD to Sophie Wray-Ramsden’s Takhisis Daggers at Dawn. BPD was Ladnar Call Me Maybe for Dave & Sue Randall whilst Alex Mills piloted her sable, Lynmack Starman at Lemivee to win BVD. In bitches, BB and taking BPB was Jo Hodges and Jopium Follow My Heart with RBB going to GIB Ch Serenlas Angel of Casatentola. Marianne’s ever youthful Keira (Ch Brooklynson Jayne Russell of Oakestelle VW won yet another BVB award.
BOB went to the Jo Hodges and her puppy, who also annexed BPIB, BPIS and RBIS, this was decided by both Judges, one of which was Sue Beare, who had judged the Smooths earlier and would later officiate over the Roughs at Show 2!
Sue Beare, Jemspark judged Show 2 with a very similar entry to Show 1 and she found her BD in Takhisis Daggers at Dawn with RBD going to Simon Walder handling Roughrigg Life of Riley at Hanvale. BPD was another win for Ladnar Call My Name. and Lynmack Starman for Lemivee. I counted just 9 on parade.
Best Bitch again went to Jopium Follow My Heart, with Anne French, Breckamore Pitch Black in Reserve. Keira and Marianne took BVB. According to the catalogue there were just about 14 present.
BOB was Jo Hodges with her Jopium Follow My Heart, who was again BPIB, BVIB was Marianne and Keira.
At the end of the day, Show 2 had BIS to the smooth, and Jo taking BPIS again.
News from Lynda Boyle (Barrenclough), at Penrith Open Show her Polish import s/w bitch, Star [Timeless Destiny Star Actis over Barrenclough JW] was awarded BOB and G3. At the same show, her s/w boy, Liam [Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW] won the Pastoral Veteran Group - nothing in BVIS, but he could not have done more. The breed and group judge was Andrea Maltas.
