4th April 2025
Scottish Breeds Ch show, does what is says, caters for all the Native Scottish breeds and they amount to 12 with an excellent Stakes coverage, but is now extended over 2 days. Good to read that there are some Collie folk on the Committee for the show, being both Margo & Gary Walker (Starlenga). Held in the Lowland Halls we, Collie Rough, were scheduled for the Sunday. With Christine Collins (Triburle) officiating over both breeds, although there are now no CC’s for Smooths, The entry was 21 males, 32 females and 4 smooths.
Christine last judged at BCC in 2023 and at the end of the day, we had some very good in show results but leading up to the final resulted in a new Champion for the breed and a 2nd CC for another.
Taking the Dog CC, and his title was now, (STKCA) Ch Jopium Love On The Rocks for owner breeder Jo Hodges who actually had a reasonably short journey to this show. This boy, is a Tricolour and with this win, now includes his owner, Jo to the rather small and exclusive club of people who have owned/bred Champions in all three colours and both sexes. Excellent work Jo and very many thanks for letting me know, what a day for you and I am sure many send their congratulations. Known at home as Rocky, he is sired by Jopium Danny Boy at Lingwell out of Jopium Loves To Sparkle with Meryctin. Not yet 3 years, he won his 1st at NWPBS from Ally King, his 2nd at another local show, Ayrshire, where Wendy Musty judged.
Another happy e mail arrived into the inbox, this was from Cas Waterhouse, who is so proud of her young boy, Eddie. Or to give him his full name, Lynmead Royal Lover. A sable, who not only his class but made his owner a very happy person and I am sure that on the long journey back to Sussex, although alone, Cas had a smile on her face. Sired in November 2022, by Born To Be Quite Famous for Lynmead out of Timeless Twilights Sent with Love to Lynmead.
BPD went to another tri, Gataj I Am Maximus owned by Melissa Lockyear and BVD went to Lynda Watts Culbrae Red Again.
Taking a quick 2nd CC was Morag & Jim McCarte with Roughrigg Remember Me, interesting to note that last time Christine judged, she awarded her RDCC to Roughrigg Rag n Bone Man and this little lady is a repeat mating of him
A RBCC went to a delighted Melissa and her Gataj All That Glitters who was also declared Best Puppy In Breed. She is a sable, sired by Very Special Agent Silvestre at Gataj out of Gataj All That Sparkles and so far, she has annexed quite a few good puppy wins since her show debut, having been born in April last year.
There were no Veteran Ladies entered but in the Spl Beginners Classes, no males were entered but Dawn Clarke-Kerr won the Spl B bitch with her Salsina Love Me Do and so nice to learn that her breeder, Jayne Llewellyn was present to see this win having travelled up with Christine.
BOB went to Jo and her newly crowned Champion boy, BPIB to Melissa and her sable, Best Junior went to Brian and Odile with their sable, Beldones Ivory Star.
At the end of the day, under judge Gordon Horan, although we did not feature in the final 12, we did mange to attain 2 really good wins of Reserve Best Puppy In Show for Melissa and Gataj All That Glitters, along with some lovely rosettes and in the final for Best Junior in Show, Odile piloted Beldones Ivory Star to take Reserve Best Junior in Show, also with lovely rosettes. So, a wonderful promotion for our breed, showing that we can, and do, achieve good places in the groups. Well done to all you took part and stayed for these competitions.
