A varied issue for you today. So, starting off with a message from Dr Lynda Boyle who has received the following information from our RKC following her recent award application for her Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW ShCex, can now carry the additional OSW and, according to the RKC who have checked their records, he is the first Rough Collie to attain this Open Show Winner Title, well done to all concerned.
Apologies to Marianne Benton and Keira, Ch Brooklynson Jane Russell of Oakestelle for missing out her Veteran G2 place at Southern Counties from Dave Killea. To any others missing a mention, or advising that the name stated was incorrect, please also accept my apologies but with time constraints and deadlines, some names can be missed or overlooked, but I am sure those concerned who feel aggrieved will contact me and let me know afterwards!
Last weekend saw a further 2 shows with CC’s on offer during our busy schedule, which resulted in a new Champion, 3 new first time CC winners, the continuance of judges selecting a blue merle puppy in the groups and  all from 3 different judges.
Saturday saw collies in the ring at Three Counties, where Sally Duffin was centre stage on her 2nd appointment for the breed, having made her debut at Belfast back in 2023. The entry was quite small, with 33 males and 38 females entered but, on the day,  there were just 24 and 21 present.
Winning a 1st CC, handled by Isaac Preddy, was Chelborn’s Gambling List. A tricolour, owned by Vanessa Cronk, he won the Open class of 6. Born January 2022, he is sired by Ch/Int Ch Skabona The Gambler at Chelborn out of Ch Chelborn Wish List. The RCC winner came from Limit, in the form of Sue Harris and her Geosamka Loves To Love at Ithilien. He is sired by Jopium Front Runner at Geosamka out of Sea Dreamers Gracy Love at Geosamka and is bred by Karen Johnston, I am not sure, but it would appear that the 2nd in Open was not required to challenge. Other class winners were Gataj Time Will Tell, alone in MPD; Ladnar Call My Name took the puppy class of 2 and ended up BPD; Brian and Odile were also alone in Junior with Clovis (Beldones Ivory Star). Another class of 2 was Graduate which was won by Gataj Perfect Timing. Cathy Cooper and Kelekona Hearts of Gold JW took PG in a class of 4. Pat Corben and Astromelias Ulises via Capriora(Imp Sp) won veteran, again with just 2 present.
Now to the ladies, and making the long journey down from Scotland was Brenda Welsh and her sable, Thistlewing Magic Lady. Sired by Culbrae Red Again out of Thistlewing Octavia. She was the only one present in Open Bitch. Repeating her RBCC from Belfast was Gataj All That Sparkles who won as a puppy and now won Limit, which had 4 entries. Sired by Gataj Out of The Woods JW out of Gataj Girl’s Best Friend and she was born in December 2022.
MPB saw Michelle Davis and Jake Walsh winning with Wicani Bellissima Rosschell over the only other entry. Donna Baker was alone in PB with Salsina’s My Girl of Marilake. Junior was quite well filled with 6 entries and this was topped by Jo Hodges and Jopium Follow My Heart. Brenda Welsh and Thistlewing Gold Mist won Graduate, a full class of 6. Liz Patman and Riverside Song Ice Cream Girl (Imp Rom) won PG which had 3 entries.  Hannah Lyall won Veteran (3) with her Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas.
BOB  was Isaac Preddy, handling for Vanessa, BPIB went to Michelle with grandson Jake handling and BVIB to Hannah and her sable bitch. In the group, judged by Tim Ball, Isaac did not feature but in the Puppy group, judged by our Breed Judge, Sally Duffin, Michelle Davis had the thrill of gaining PPG4 with Wicani Bellissima Rosschell. Interesting to note at the last couple of All Breed Ch Shows, a blue merle rough puppy has taken group placings. I think Hannah went into the group but I did not see her listed from Gill Jonty Davis.
Those with better constitutions and stamina, than others, went home from Malvern, had a rest but were up again early to travel to Hatfield, to the Doberman  Club Ground for London Collie Ch show where CC’s were on offer to both Roughs and Smooths. I would like to remind you, it is lovely to win but do think of your charges as attending shows within such a short time can have an adverse effect on them and especially youngsters who do need their rest.
Thanks to Show Secretary, Julie Sewell who sent down a fully marked catalogue of the event, if only other Club secretaries could do similar. In the current technical advancement, just a photograph of the catalogue is often sufficient to ensure inclusion – thanks in advance.
The overall entry was somewhat smaller than expected for Roughs, according to the catalogue there were 31 smooths for Mike who had the pleasure of making up another Champion for Trevor & Birgit Hayward. That left a total  of 84 Roughs but again, and maybe due to the 3 Cos on the previous day there were a considerable number missing leaving just 22 males and 31 females present
Judge for the males was Anita Fox (Alanita) who was officiating on her 2nd appointment, the first being at N&D in 2022. Winning a first CC, and a first CC for the a Lillyway male was Lillyway Legacy, a tricolour, owned and bred by Julie Growcott. Sired by Samhaven Name That Tune for Breckamore out of Nithview Country Dreams at Lillyway and he was born in Nov 2019 and has only been lightly campaigned up until now. This win has given Julie such a boost having come through lots of issues at home and also finds time to run the Collielife pages, for which we are all grateful. Taking the RDCC, brother to a recent CC winner, was Lynmead Prince Charming for Anne Page. He won from Graduate and is sired by Ch Born |To Be Quite Famous Lynmead out of Timeless Twilights Sent With Love to Lynmead and he was born in Nov 2022. Ann would like to thank all her helpers/runners who helped her on the day. The following won classes. Gataj Time Will tell MP/2; Ladnar Call My Name PD/1; Roughrigg Rags’n’Riches Junior/2; Novice 1, Ladnar Call me Maybe; PG (3) Paulara Blaze of Glory; ML (3) Triburle The Joker; Limit (3) Ladnar Makeithappen for Nikal; Veteran (1) Lynmead Amalie Let Me Go.  BPD went to Ladnar Call My Name and Veteran  to another of Anne Page, Lynmead Amelie Let Me Go,
Sue Hawkins, Brilyn last judged at Irish Collie in 2023 and prior to that Blackpool. Her choice for the CC, and New Champion title was Jayne Llewellyn’s sable Artzaiak Second Hand Rose at Salsina (Imp Esp.). She gained her previous CC wins from John Congdon and  Rox Makepeace at British & Lancs & Cheshire back in 2022. Sired by Stonehaven Pride Golden Touch at Salsina ex Artzaiak So Charming with Jose Arumbaru as breeder and she won Limit with 2 entries.
Taking yet another, and I think the total is now 7, was Chantal & Andre’s Chantique Déjà vu who won the Open class of 7.Keep going one day that big one will arrive! Veteran, the largest class of the day on paper (10) was won by the ever youthful Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian JW handed by Jo Brooker but only 3 of the entries arrived. Other class winners included: Lynmead Star Struck who won out of 2 in MP; Salsina’s My Girl of Marilake won a full puppy class of 4  and Novice; Salsina Blushing Rose won Junior with 2 present; Graduate had Gataj Time After Time at Rahlissa with 3 ladies present. PG (2) was Salsina Feel My Love; Mid Limit had all 5 entries present with Roughrigg One of A Kind winning.  BPB was declared as Salsina My Girl of Marilake with Dreamy taking BVB.
Stephen Clarke, Sec of LCC was celebrating his birthday and at the end of the day, Jayne went BIS, RBIS to Chantique Déjà vu; BOSIS to the newly crowned smooth, Vine annexed another BPIS for Dave & Sue. Best Baby puppy in show, classes also judged by Sue Hawkins was Blamorder Star Struck and Dreamy collected yet another BVIS.
Finally, on a very personal note, thank you to all who commented on the loss of Ch Atendus Erasure who suffered a brain issue recently with only one outcome. Bred by the late Gill Unstead, he came to live at Antoc. Both Gill and I undertook a memorable trip to ICC and Belfast (nearly missing the overnight ferry due to traffic) but this was soon forgotten when he took the CC & BIS at ICC from Joan Fryer-Clark, followed by the CC at Belfast from Richard Kinsey. His next show he won the RDCC at Mid Cos from Maria Foulston, a RDCC from John Walsh (Snr) at L&P and finally his title at CA from the late Joe Chorley where Gill was present to see her first sable male Atendus Champion. Taking a rest from the show ring, he won a further 2 CC’s from Graham Hill and Brian House along with a RDCC from Pat Lister. He also won a few Veteran classes and retired at Windsor having taken another BVD. He was born in February 2012, sired by Atendus French Franc out of a daughter of Ch Sandiacre Shumaker and ruled the roost here at Antoc living with our Houdini Hound, La Diva who misses him greatly.
