The latest BRS (Breed Record Supplement) is now available for those interested and by a whisker and a paw, our breed has just avoided the drop into At Risk section
To give you the figures, last year, total registrations were 431, and for 2024, we managed to improve to 453, not much, but an improvement anyway
This record from October 2024 to Dec 2024 showed 18 new litters recorded with 91 puppies, a far cry from earlier days. Of these litters, puppies registered are from litter sizes varying from 2 to 9 pups.
Importations hold steady with a total of 8 including from Poland, Belgium; USA; Croatia, Switzerland, and Portugal. One concern is that 2 of these have been imported by a breeder who is well known to many for producing numerous litters within a short space of time and many are advertised  at high prices but some do not appear to hold current health checks, so please remember when you are buying in, check all details, especially if bought (as many are) unseen and there is limited knowledge of correct parentage.
Just 9 Roughs had name changes although 66 are recorded with a transfer of ownership and 2 are recorded as being exported.
16 collies gained their KCSB, 7 new champions are now officially recorded although some of these gained their titles back in July last year. Finally, in this section, 25 entries are recorded under the CC winners and 4 new Junior Warrant winners.
The Health section is a little sparse, with just 4 collies noted under the Eye (Ophthalmic) scheme, 1 was affected with 4 recorded as clear. Good to see 6 results for Hip Scoring with some excellent low scores. DNA testing was also recorded with CEA.CH/PRA/ DM and MDRI with results for quite a few collies gaining clear results for many of these tests.
A short message from Melissa Lockyear who popped down the road to attend a local show with the following results at Exeter & District CS. Gataj All that Glitters went BPIB, BOB, PG4 and PPG1, her other exhibits took RBOB and other awards from judge Juliet Cooper, who if it one and the same, comes from Devon and awards CC’s to all Dachshund breeds.
Another message, this time from Denis Beardsworth, also letting me know of other good group wins over the weekend. Especially at his own local show Oswestry, where he won from judge Heidi Thomas, (Mournebrake) whose main breed in Hungarian Puli, and with his Maysinder Sapphire Reign took RBOB to Valerie Geddes and her tri, Ingledene Absolute Legend BOB, who also took G1. The BPIB was Julie Edwards with Beldones Summer Dreams and she took PP3. It was quite a small entry (12) over the 3 classes, but on the day there were Junior 2, PG - 2 and Open just 1
Very good day at North Staffs Canine yesterday for Rough Collies in general and Team Barrenclough and Lynda Boyle wrote:  thanks to our judge, Cheryl Pierpoint. The handsome Kyro [B DIAMOND DAWN AT MYJACKS] won Open, BOB and Group 4 for Eileen Pullen. My lovely Starlight  TIMELESS DESTINY STAR ACTIS OVER B JW won Post Grad and RBOB and my handsome Liam [B HEART OF GOLD JW] won Pastoral Veteran Group 1. Huge congrats also to Jan and Steve Williams on BPIB and Puppy Group 1 with ESSANJAY RING OF FIRE. Nothing in BIS for any of us, but we were there flying the RC flag high and neither dog put a foot wrong
