More good news for the breed when I received a short message concerning our breed and their contribution to our lives
Miranda writes that Fin Ch Corydon Dom Perignon,  owned by Eija Alvasto and Eeva Ponni, has been very busy over the last year as an “Official Reading Dog”. This is in Finland and Dom will be, and has been visiting schools and libraries and sits with children, giving a calming influence whilst they learn to read. His daughter, Black Elles Return of the Perignon, known as Ria  is also involved and visits schools and libraries too. So good to know as we are all aware, Roughs have many attributes and if you know of others in “helping roles” do let me know and I can publish here.
Now to the weekend, and another of firsts, the first outdoor championship show was held in the shadow of the Malvern Hills and the anti-rain dance, held frequently by all the committee members at WELKS, certainly paid off as the weather held and all enjoyed the day.
The judge for the day was Morag McCarte, who along with husband Jim, have the Roughrigg kennels, based in Scotland. Morag last judged at L&C in 2024 and prior to that at Irish Collie in 2022.
Her posted entry was 29 males and 43 females and according to Fosse Data, there were just 4 dogs and 9 bitches missing.
A first CC went to the winner of Limit, Liam Kelly and his Ballahanna Betrayed. A sable, sired by Ch Ballahanna All Guns Blazin’ out of Samhaven Sister Sarah with Ballahanna (who won the RBCC at Crufts last year). This sable boy already has 2 RDCC to his credit also won last year.
He was followed home by Gataj Just Like Jesse James and Melissa, who won Junior, he is sired by Ch Gataj Turn Back Time out of Sweetmints Uptown Girl at Gataj (Imp Norway) and has been winning quite a few classes since his show debut and only celebrated his first birthday on 12th April.
Other class winners included: Barrenclough Heart of Gold JW ShCEx VW Veteran; Chantique Will of t’Wisp MP; Kourika Dancing On Ice PD; Ladnar Call My Name – Yearling; PG went to Starlenga All About Majic for Corisian; Ch Chelborn’s Gambling List won Open.
Heading the ladies, from Limit, was Margaret Harrison and her sable, Abby, perhaps better known as Cambrogan Lady of Loch’abar at Cariadhaf. Sired by Cariadhaf Crazy Dream (Brodie) out of Cariadhaf Cookies and Cream for Cambrogan (Bella) and an excited and very proud breeder, Stacy Steven let me know the good news. Taking another RBCC was the winner of Open, Jayne & Carl Llewellyn and Artziak Strawberry Rose for Salsina (Imp Sp) known at home as Lizzie, she already has 1 CC to her name. She is bred by JM Arumbaru Duran, sired by Juicy Couture of Lowlands Green Valley out of Artziak Secondhand Rose, and her daughter, Salsina Mystic Rose added to the success of the kennel by winning Post Graduate too.
Other class winners were: Veteran, Telforth Sweet Dreams to Corisian; Gataj Peggy Sue, who is also owned by Margaret Harrison and won MP.  A lovely win for Alex Mills when her homebred Lemivee Connie’s Songbird won not only PB but BPB; Aaronwell All About Elsa took Junior; Beldones Caribbean Girl won Yearling:
BOB and into the group for Jill Peak, was Abby and Margaret, BPIB was declared for Alex Mills under Ed Casey , BVIB to Dreamy under Mr E l Ryan. I have not heard of any places or short-listing for any.
I noticed more money prizes coming to roughs in the featured Stakes Classes when Ch Chelborn Tell Me Your Wish annexed Reserve and £5.00 in Sybil Churchill Memorial Stakes judged by Mr E Ryan and when Ed Casey judged the Special Beginners Stakes £30 went to the winner, Chelborn Look At me for Sue Thomas.
Following a few Club AGM’s and meetings there are a few changes you may like to be advised of: At EACA, they have a new president, in the form of Pat Hutchinson of Karibuni fame and a new Treasurer in Marion Withers. I also understand that currently, Lene Newman (Phreelancer) is acting secretary to Midland Collie following the departure of both Hannah & Simon Walder. Once more details are confirmed I will let you all know.
