Before reporting on the last weekend’s show here there were some super results and a real family affair to cover, I was sad to receive news via Tony Iley (Ileyda) of the recent death of Liz Robinson who had the Claredawn collies. Tony had received a message from long term friend and kennel helper, Helen Martin, that Liz died on May 3rd having been in poor health for some time.
Perhaps a name not known to many of our current exhibitors but Liz and her late husband Carl were based in the North-East and had many connections to one of the oldest breed clubs, Northumberland & Durham.
Although not currently active, the contribution to the world of dogs cannot be overlooked. 2 outstanding Champions, amongst others in their kennel were Ch Claredawn Clansman and Ch Claredawn Consor. Clansman was sired by Ch Ramsey of Rokeby out of Erjon Evendawn (a Romeo of Rokeby daughter) Whilst Ch Claredawn Consor was sired by Jefsfire Jamie of Piphoney out of Erjon Edenvale, both of these were upstanding males and dominated their classes.
Other names to mention include: C. Stars In Her Eyes (Cramar Gold Accolade for Erjon ex Stilglen Sweet Solitaire at C); C Angel of Gold and C Going for Gold.
Liz was an approved Championship show judge over the breed, and I do recall her awarding a 3rd CC to our Ch Antoc Academy Award at one of the Scottish shows held in Dam Park Pavilion, Ayr. More recently Liz judged at Darlington in 2013, Crufts in 2012 along with co-judge, the late Pauline Skyrme and other appointments were Richmond & Blackpool.
Now to the shows at the weekend:
Smooth Collie Club of GB held their dual Open shows at Bagington on Saturday in super weather. This society also schedules class for Roughs and although the entry was virtually identical at both shows, the results were also quite similar from the 17 exhibitors who attended both.
Show 1 and 2 had original entries of 32 but on the day,  there were some absentees, leaving 6 males and 13 ladies present for Show 1 and for Show 2, the same 6 males and an additional female attended Show 2
The judge for Show 1 was Sue Bird (Joyberna), not to be confused with Sue Bird (Bridus) who is already an approved CC awarding judge.
Her choices over the classes were as follows: Junior had Ch Mejola Endeavour; Post Grad to Ladnar Call My Name JW; Corydon The Baronet took Limit and the Open winner was Ch Mejola Top Gun. BD went to Maverick from Open with Ninja, Corydon The Baronet taking RBD. There were no puppies or Veterans present.
Taking PB was Serenlas She’s On Trend; Tremaro Fantasy took Junior;  PG to Corydon Christiana and Limit to Opernball at Intermittent Lake and Open to Bel Ch Ch Takhisis Lady of Mystery and the only Veteran present was Santaloly’s Sky Amidalas. BB went to Miranda and Chrissie with Sophie and Takhisis Lady Of Mystery BW in reserve.
BOB went to Miranda and Corydon Christiana, (Chrissy) , RBOB to Maverick, and the only puppy and Veteran annexed BPIB and BVIB accordingly.
At the end of Show 1, BIS was judged by Claire Norman (Seauana) who awarded all main awards to the Roughs over the Smooths who had been judged by Lorraine Quince (Karafaye)
Show 2, this time judged by Linda Pierson of  Kiltondale Bearded Collies and BIS to Delia Moores (Manordeifi) Smooths were judged by Keira Martin (Sturtmoor)
The results for this show were very nearly identical to that of Show 1, but BD was declared for Ladnar Call My Name, with Maverick in Reserve.  However, for the ladies, slightly different as Linda’s winners were also the same except that Lorraine Quince, fresh from her judging duties at Show 1, took Limit with her Oakley Ice Queen at Karafaye (Imp CHE).
BOB this time went to Takhisis Lady of Mystery, Corydon Christiana was RBOB both the puppy and Veteran were duly declared BPIB and BVIB
BIS here was the Smooth, with RBIS to Takhisis Lady of Mystery, BPIS to Serenlas She’s On Trend but BVIS went to the Smooth.

Some intrepid exhibitors then travelled north to Lancashire & Cheshire Ch Show, with an entry of 22 males and 51 ladies. Held at Thomson House Equestrian Centre, it was not long before results arrived and my sincere thanks to all who have actually sent, and kept us updated throughout the day. Your help is very much appreciated.
Here the judges were Penny Sewell (Lewarne) for the entry of 39 Smooth Collies, Kay Hateley (Mohnesee) for dogs and President, Gael Wilcock from Australia to judge the 51 entered ladies with BIS being decided by Maxine Mellish (Demelewis)
Kay, who has judged the breed lastly at Manchester and previously at Midland Collie found her winner in Clovis, Ch Beldones Ivory Star (Ch Camanna Codename ex Beldones Ebony and Ivory) Clovis has just celebrated his 2nd birthday and was handled on the day by Odile as Brian was away at another show with  their Shetland Sheepdog, Beldones Just A Hunch, and whilst Odile annexed the CC for Roughs, Brian annexed the CC with their sheltie – what a great day for all concerned.
Taking the RDCC, alone in his class was Aaronwell Asks The Question, a sable, today handled by owner John Congdon and he won Junior. Sired by Brilyn Worth The Wait out of his recent Ch, Aaronwell Abel Mabel and he was born March 2025.
Veteran was won by Culbrae Red Again, with other class winners being: Jopium Just For You Corisian (MP); Chelborn Look At Me (PD); Malouines Never Ending Story (GD); Ladnar Call My Name (PG) and Avonfair Aloysius JW who won Limit.
Now for the ladies, and what a blue family affair it turned out to be! So, please allow me to try and explain.
Gael, who came over from Australia has previously judged in the UK, having last officiated at Darlington,(2018)  where her BOB winner (Int Ch Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano) not only took BOB but also Pastoral G1. Prior to that Gael judged at Blackpool (2010) and has also judged dogs for L&C back in 2009
BCC and BOB and BIS was a daughter of the BVIB winner, who is a daughter of the CC & BOB winner when Gael last judged. As was the winner of MPB. The BPIS was a daughter of the RCC winner.  All blue merles and of a type, so well done to the judge on the day, Gael, who found a likeness in many of her exhibits and final placings.
So, whilst you are trying to work all this out, the BCC and her crown went to Lene Newman and her Ingledene Crystal Vision of Phreelancer, known as Vivien. Her other CC wins were at CA in 2025 from Tan Nagrecha, followed by a 2nd at Midland Collie from substitute (for Derek Smith) Trevor Hayward. She has also won quite a few Breed Club BIS awards and now rules the roost at Phreelancer.  She is sired by Ingledene Well Sooted out of Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda.
The RBCC winning blue is Ch Skabona If I Saw You in Heaven for Chelborn, who is sired by Rising Light Scotland Yard out of Skabona Knocking On Heavens Door and she gained her CC’s back in 2024. She is also the dam of the BPIB and eventual BPIS, Chelborn Blue Me Away, owned by Isaac Preddy and Vanessa Cronk who is sired by the Crufts CC  winning, Ch Kourika You’ll Do For Me.
BVIB and BVIS went to Ch Ingledene Sno Wanda, sired by One Extraordinary Blu di Cambiano out of Ch Ingledene Spirit of Ecstasy and has only just entered her Veteran classes as she is born in September 2018 and has been at home raising a litter. Others to win classes were: Uffspring Unique Espoir, Lemivee Connie’s Songbird won Maiden but had been beaten in an earlier class; Ladnar Secret Gift won Novice; Gemheid May’d of Gold for Stregato took Graduate; Corydon Christiana won Post Graduate.
